"Bewitched" To TV Land March 1

On TV Land? I could have sworn that was the case. I'm wondering what the big hullaballoo is all about then - other than the fact that they will be airing a "Bewitched" marathon on the weekend of March 20...

Radio used to be famous for this sort of thing: they're basically throwing their older viewers a bone, using that bone as a promotional and imaging vehicle with the intent of never really being what that group really, really wants. It's their way of telling that group "See, we really still are Classic Television!"

One thing I'd like to see them do is to do something similar to what they did with "I Love Lucy" and restore the original opening themes for most of the episodes.

For those who don't know, the arrangement of the theme most often associated with the Dick York years (you know, with all the flutes and french horns?) was only used during the first season. A new arrangement was recorded for season two. You can hear it, re-sync'ed with the syndicated opening, here: http://bit.ly/bDTNf3

With the coming of color in season three, another new arrangement was recorded. This one was used for all of the Dick York color episodes: http://bit.ly/4jdHPR -- Oddly enough, a few episodes in the early syndication packages escaped with this theme intact even though most were redubbed with the season 1 arrangement.

I know we'll never see the Chevrolet or Quaker Oats sponsor billboards restored (for obvious reasons), but they could put the themes back with very little work.

What happened to the links to the themes in the last post? Was this some sort of violation that had to be deleted? There should at least be some explanation as to why they were deleted.

In the future, if you have a question about an action regarding a specific post, please use the "report to moderator" function found next to every post. You can also PM me directly or email me at [email protected]. There's even a pull down menu that has a "Contact Us" link to administration on every page on the forum. That not only keeps the thread on topic, it also cuts right to the chase and gets you an answer far more quickly.

If you have a more general question about site operations, we have an entire board dedicated to answering them. The Ask Radio-Info board was created specifically for this purpose. We ask users not to interrupt threads with questions that would be better answered one on one or on the Ask RI board. Anotherguy's question is completely reasonable but it's placement here derails the discussion.

Now to Anotherguy's question. The reason you see "Radio-Info" substituted where there was obviously a different URL in its place is because of the original URL that was used. Pabsungenis innocently used a bit.ly URL that redirected to Youtube.com instead of the longer link that clearly shows the origin of the content. While Pab's intent was to present links to relevant content, most who use this on Radio-Info.com do so to hide their true intentions. There is a tremendous history of these links being misused in order to spam sites with links to non radio content or worse. We've had no choice but to automatically change the URL to something else. As much as we'd like to explain every single administrative action on the site, it's simply not possible in every case. In this case, we received no notification that the URL had been changed because it's done automatically by the software. With that said, we'll be glad to clarify any questions in this case.

As a courtesy, I've added the YouTube links that Pab meant for you to see.

As you can see, it doesn't take much to post these kinds of links. If you have further suggestions or comments regarding this situation, I'd love to hear them. Feel free to use any of the aforementioned ways to reach me. Let's not take up any more space on this thread with non-Bewitched content.

Thanks to Pabsungenis for going to the trouble of finding links to the Bewitched content. Thanks to Anotherguy for asking for more clarification.

And now back to your regular programming...

Thanks, MBE, for the explanation, and might I add one more thing:

As long as nobody posts links on YouTube to something that would "Rickroll" other readers, we'll be fine. ;) Play ball!

Another interesting thing about "Bewitched" is that in recent years it's been very successfully franchised out. There have been modern sitcom interpretations in Argentina, India, and Russia, and Sony themselves launched a fairly successful re-envisioning of it as a 45-minute drama in Japan back in 2004. There was even a British pilot shot by the BBC a couple of years ago starring Sheridan Smith and Frances de la Tour as Samantha and Endora.

I'm surprised that Sony hasn't tried re-launching it here in America yet.

They did produce that "Bewitched" movie several years ago, which (as I recall) didn't do all that well. Because of that movie, they may be hesitant to push a relaunch of the series in the US. Alternatively, they may have been trying to pitch it, and just haven't found a buyer.

But, yeah, a relaunch does seem like a good idea -- if they can find creative talent that will respect the original concept and produce a remake that can capture the spirit of the original show in some manner.

TV Land ran it a few years back, they ran it back to back with I Dream of Jeannie, I recall TV land asking the question who has the most power, Jeannie or Samantha?
