This is my final post, so I'll make it a good one

I can't believe I'm wasting my time with 'haters' like ya'll, but I will respond one time and then leave it all to you.

WRAX changed morning shows, midday shows, afternoon shows and night shows, swapped frequencies and signal patterns, and still only went down a point or so 18-34 persons. Matter of fact, take away the book where both WANZ and WRAX simulcasted, and the numbers compare well to fall and summer 2004. That's frickin' amazing and a complement to the X airstaff considering all the changes.

The research we did finally got implemented in mid-May. In the June extraps, WRAX was NUMBER ONE 18-34, yep, #1 with a 13.9 share. I realize that number is not real (I think we ARE a 9 share 18-34 station), but what it does show is that our research is DEAD ON and finally took root in June. 12+ we were down, but that's because we are not focusing on teens.

Now, as for all the cute postings.....

WRAX is alternative. KDJE was active rock. Two WAY different situations calling for two different strategies. The Edge did rock HARD. WRAX doesn't necessarily call for that kind of lean. But, Got Rock, you're not smart enough to know that are you?

By the way, I have no corporate VP of programming to deal with. All programming is handled locally with the help of great research provided by my company.

So get all your shots in now because WRAX and Citadel is coming and coming fast.

Oh, and by the way, nobody seemed to mention that the citadel urban station that is a "stunt" or is "horrible" debuted with a 7.9 share 18-34 adults. Hot 107.7 is a great station and it showed in this book. (Jamz down to a 13 share).

Once again, I invite all you people hiding behind your nicknames to come out and discuss things like pros. But you won't because you ARE NOT pros. You're dicks with keyboards and a faux knowledge of radio. Suck my balls.

As for the Beaner & Ken Haters, they are number TWO in the June extraps 18-34. And I know I speak for them when I say suck my balls.

Thanks to Bueller for the kind words. Also, kudos to WQEN for a great book. Go Ace & TJ (friends of mine and former employees)!

To recap: WRAX IS kicking ass, and all the haters can suck my balls.

Now, I'm going to have a couple of drinks and look at boobies at Sammy's with Tony Kurre and celebrate a GREAT book. This is my last post.

Sincerely,

Kenny "Dubya", "Cadillac Jack", "Eddie Munster", "Joe Friday", "Catfish Cooper" Wall. WRAX PD

The fact that you have even shown your face on this board is
truly a great thing. I, for one, appreciate the fact that
you care enough to do so. Some people, who ain't been in your
shoes, can sit there and pretend they know everything.
Forget their $5.50 mentality. Do those of us (who have
been/or are where you are) a favor and add your e-mail
address to your profile. You'll get lots of real advice
from people as passionate and driven as yourself. For
the most part, you can figure out who is out to hurt
or help if you get direct e-mails. Sad that, AS ALWAYS,
the same people who bitch that no one in radio listens
to listeners can't even get off lame insults after you
offer to listen. Armchair quarterbacks are never in the
game and couldn't play if they had to. And anyone who
tries to use 12+ numbers is never going to see anything
important to WRAX anyway.

And for those of you who know anything about this format,
the harder edge is what has been killing listeners and
keeping females away and quite frankly, this 18-34 male
driven format doesn't get great advertiser support from the
listeners, so be glad you even have a station playing
any of it.

Don't run from this so quickly! Good luck.

I have always liked WRAX, but the move to 100.5 is what turned me away, not just because i live in Huntsville and can't get it because of 100.3 and 100.7, but because even when i traveled through birmingham it came in so bad on my walkman that it was just pitiful, and what are they gonna do if the whole thing with WWWQ and the former 100.5 in Anniston don't get resolved before 2007 when their CP expires? Hopefully it will though and the x can go from 11kw to 93kw where it belongs
______________

Re: This is my final post, so I'll make it a good one

First off Kenny, never-ever consider putting me in the "radio PRO" category. I'd rather be associated with lawyers, the maffia, or the church of scientology. Just never put me in the same group as youreslf. Look to the left, there you will find a "PRO" board, so I think it is safe to say that THIS forum is a free-for-all.

SO HERE WE GO!... Let's talk about this "research" of yours. You say that you do not have to deal with corporate when it comes to your programming. But in the next sentence, you say that "your company" contributes to the research. Call me crazy, but doesn't that corporate research dictate what your station plays?

As far as me not liking the X-staff, they're OK with me. It's the same crappy repetitive music that now drives me crazy. However, I will say that YOU and Luka are the two worst "talents" to hit the X-airwaves. Maybe you should take some lessons from Lee Davis down the hall, hehe.

Now, let's look at those ratings. Here is a link for ALLLLL to see: http://www.radioandrecords.com/RRRatings

WOW, Dr. "DUBYA" Doolittle, those are Arbitron's ratings, not mine. From here, it looks as if your station is consistantly dropping!

Having said this, I will now allow you to go to Sammys. At least there you will have a legitimate reason for saying, "Here Kitty, Kitty"! What's next on the station's PSA of a website? Maybe a section about how to boil Easter eggs! OOOOO, I can't wait.

Check, please!
______________

Some questions for Kenny Hall

I have a few questions that I'd be curious to know about re: WRAX. I'll interject some opinions, I'm sure, along the way.

First, I have no problem with the general direction of the format, as I'm a fan of AAA. Not that I'm saying WRAX is doing that, but let's just say I can live without the harder stuff. My one complaint is that there's a lack of depth in the music. Modern rock/alternative didn't just appear five, or even 10 years ago, yet you'd be hard-pressed to hear any classic alternative other than what airs on Vintage Vault. Those of us who discovered this music back when it was only played on college radio in the '80s have fond memories of it, and new listeners won't be turned off by a longer playlist, IMHO. I think the Jack format is a good indication that people really will listen to a station with more songs in rotation. What are your thoughts on this?

Next question: What's the future of Beaner and Ken? IMHO, the current arrangement just isn't working well. These guys can do a great morning show, and they did it on the "old" WRAX and WANZ, but this arrangement where they share time with Syracuse is awful. The show doesn't seem to flow well, probably because they have to do all those recorded segments to make it sound more local to Birmingham. So, will this arrangement with Syracuse continue, or will they be coming back to Birmingham to do a truly local show? I'll be completely honest. Listening to that syndicated mess has gotten so painful that I've started tuning in to DD and Kimberly on WTXT, not so much because I like country but because they're local. If you say B&K's ratings are up, so be it, but I have a hard time believing it.

Anyway, just my $0.02.

Re: This is my final post, so I'll make it a good one

Kenny,

I don't know you, and Bobby Bones says you're a good guy, but please, please do not brag about KDGE like it was some great accomplishment. I hope you never forget that when you and your buddy Dale came to Little Rock, you threw my career in the shitter and blew up a radio station, Q100, that had gone from a 2.4-4.0 in ONE book, my first book as PD, and that was saddled with the horrible Kidd Kraddick show that was weighing the station down like a 50-ton anchor. All you succeeded in doing with The Edge was stealing from Magic 105, your own damn radio station! What kind of cluster strategy was that, Kenny?

I truly hope you didn't have to ruin anyone else's lives to get your new gig in Birmingham this time, Kenny. Just remember, radio is a very small business. You never even bothered to reach out to me while I sat on my ass for four months, unemployed in Little Rock. Hope it was worth it.

Re: Some questions for Kenny Hall

I agree with the Beaner and Ken comments. At one point I had an awesome Beaner and Ken website (it started out as a school project). I've met them several times and they're awesome. But now, and I NEVER thought I'd say this, I can't listen to the show. I tend to agree with Mstevens on many things, and again, he has hit the NIN on the head. For me there is no flow, tooooooo much crappy-sappy overplayed music, and simply not enough B&K goodness!
______________

Yeah, they may have taken a little bit off of Jamz, but what you don't know is where Jamz leaves off Kiss will take up. If I didn't know any better, wasn't Hot main competition suppose to be Kiss FM primarily since they're the ratings leader?

I who know the consultant for the Cox urban cluster and word is that they have a new strategy (not really , but **hint**, its the same thing they did to WENN but with R&B this time) up their sleeves that will toast Hot. My advice to you guys at Citadel is that Hot better find a niche before Cox's cluster picks it apart. I wish Hot 107.7 the best, but you guys have to watch your competition a lot closer now more than ever since your newness has wore off. These are the books that new stations seem to either full steam ahead or faulter and later fail.
______________
