Some random thoughts:
The music is so pedestrian. Where are the Bucks and Shames and NCS? I guess Bob Stroud is the only person who still plays them hiuh?
Ton's of technical glitches but that's to be expected when the $8 per hour board ops are used to Rush and his outro. I guess those engineers at 'LS in the 60s & 70's really did have a major hand in making it sound so effortless.
The Grobber - jealous much? The sports stations don't have a good overnight show. Gee I wonder if a 1970 graduate of Von Steuben might be the answer?
Larry - good to hear that he hasn't mellowed in 20 years. I think the only reason he is on the air with Tommy Edwards is that Tommy s the only one who can put up with him. Was there anybody Ol' Uncle Lar liked at 'LS?
Can't wait for Landecker. I have my toilet flush ready when I am on Boogie Check.
Some things to think about:
Will they ever do anything like this on AM1000 for WCFL? If not, would it kill Citadel to bring back some of the 'CFL people before they all become extinct?
Wither Steve and Garry? Will there ever be a time when S&G will reunite on WLS?
Some of the music could be better.....they are replaying a lot they did last year....but then I heard "Rock Me in Your Arms" by the Doobies which I DONT think they played last year....
The VCR winner rewind whinner (Oh hell what is her name) with the HIGH pitchy "I DID.....I DID????" YES she did!! BUT can we find another something to play in place of that? I got tired of hearing her voice last year!!!
The reverb is on the stream this year....a little tooo much on the reverb but they did it good.....Ive been recording the stream since 4AM this morning....with two programs...Audacity and Audio Grabber...both in 44.1/16bit stereo (wish the stream was in stereo!!! They STILL run CQUAM at night dont they??)......thank goodness for that new Maxtor 500GB drive I got from Fry's online this last week (the offer on it ends when the stock is gone; $79 for 500GB ATA!!). Last year's stream was in three modes...WMA, RA and MP3.....It sounds ok to me but I have two PC listening...one recording and the laptop up front tied to the stereo so I can listen it out of the 3ft tall Kenwood spkrs......that PC is AHEAD of the recording PC by a good 15 secs or more...guess the one I started recording at 4am is buffering more...which is fine. I am getting some dropouts and hiccups on the laptops but the desktop hasnt missed a bit yet (no pun intended)...well not that I noticed..
As for Tommy and Larry, Larry is doing it via ISDN in New Mexico from his ranch...so they need someone local in the studios.....(could have done it with just Larry by himself but Larry is able to do things considering the board ops...before, they have UNION engineers running the boards....now, its MAYBE $10/hr kids who sometimes have trouble with normal oard operation; but then last year they had some pros like Jay Philpott there handling the board for hours at a stretch).....a setup with ISDN and talkback/etc is more complicated (Hell, I'd LOVE to run the board for them!!! Looks like a PR&E but not sure)
Fred was talking a bit much this year and he used the same joke on the same song he did last year (Ride Capt Ride...and the "Glazed Paradise"....it was funny last year)
Landecker is on now and as always sounds GREAT!!! They seem to be running different jingles at times than they did last year (which were all legendary jingles from the era).....some of the TOH IDs seem to be as if they were done for the TALK format........I see Gil Gross also has the reverb in it.......a little tooooo much for my taste and in my professional opinion...one of my former AMs ran a mechanical reverb....we turned it DOWN after a while......but if a jock walked past it, and touched it, the thing reverbed for minutes...and it was inline with program...not just the mics as LS is doing right now....
Next year, turn down the reverb, put stereo on the stream (wider bandwidth like it would be in CQUAM) and ........EGADs, there is a spot running right now...at 7:26..its NOT feeding the stream but someone has a mic open and you can hear it WAY in the background AND the reverb (UGH!)..........As I said, thats what you get for having cheap board ops!!
