Big 95.5

Pretty sure he was joking. I do, however, find it funny that stations (and other businesses) are willing to pay for Facebook likes and Twitter follows.

New station is a TOTAL DISASTER!!!

Been on the air for almost a full month, and in market #3, it's only managed 2,100 Facebook likes. That is absolutely pathetic.

LOL x 10000000!!!

Yep, one month on the air, hasn't even been fully developed yet, and you're already declaring it a failure.

Yeah, hahaha, hilarious.

2 more things;

1) Their pushing of Angie for the mornings. I get you want to hype your new morning show, but I don't think she's worth the hype. I don't like her on Kiss. I find her annoying personally, for a couple of reasons. So I fail to see what she brings to the morning show.

2) The station plays these random skits between breaks. Gawd these are stupid.

Yes - Facebook is a useful metric for stations that cater to middle aged & generally non-professional adults in terms of gauging P1 engagement.

Listener engagement is clearly very low so far.

It is too soon to declare the station a failure, but my early impressions are certainly negative ones. The audio processing stinks, the playlist stinks, and the morning host is someone with no credibility among rock radio listeners. It was a lazy move on the part of local management.

But hey - I guess some on this board enjoy a station that plays Nickelback and Creed multiple times a day every day! Let me guess - the PD is a man in his 50's. Am I right? That's not to say all older gentlemen are incapable of programming great sounding rock stations. Case in point - Keith Hastings. Phenomenal rock programmer.

Re:

Station plays a grand total of 1 Godsmack song in regular rotation even though that artist is featured in the launch promo.

Plays Nickelback as often as Metallica.

Only plays the safest, most boring Metallica songs.

Plays Bryan Adams, John Mellencamp and Goo Goo Dolls despite trying to project an image of being a RAAAAAAAAWK! station.

I'm sorry, Chicago, but I'm embarrassed for you. This station is truly rotten. You deserve better, especially if you are out of clear listening range of WIIL.

Not a bad lineup at all IMO. Great decision to bring Walt back to the Chicago market in particular. Also nice that most of them will be live and not voice-tracked.

EDIT: Considering all of the talent were previously associated with formats that play currents in addition to golds/recurrents, it makes me wonder if the classic rock tracks on WCHI (as it is now known) are not long for this world. Also most of the talent were on Alternative-formatted stations beforehand... I wonder if this is going to slowly morph into a clone of Pittsburgh's WXDX or Nashville's WBUZ (two Alts who play quite a bit of classic rock and hard rock)?

All the old stuff WXDX plays are popular songs from the alternative charts, many of which also crossed over to Hot AC or CHR/Pop at one point. It's been many years since that station has included a lot of pure active rock titles in its playlist.

Klinger voicetracks a ton of iHM rock, classic rock & alt stations. He is a very good air talent.

Abe was nothing remarkable when he was on the air at Sirius XM. The Flakus hire is a good one, but let's face it - hiring him was pretty much a no-brainer.

None of this really matters, though, unless the station fixes its abysmal playlist. Someone over there really adores Nickelback, Pat Benatar, Bryan Adams and Night Ranger. Rage Against The Machine and Drowning Pool are almost always preceded by one of the sappy songs in rotation.

Fecesbook is still an irrelevant metric. Getting thumbs up/down/likes isn't a substantive amount.

I mean, my Wife will post pictures of our kids and get 6,000 likes. What does that mean? Are my kids going to be successful because they got all these likes?

As to Angi, ya, not much cred with me. She lost a lot yesterday when Abe was doing sports and he mentioned Tim Raines and she was like "Who?" GTFO!!! You've been in Chicago HOW long?

Listened to some of Angi and Walt today. Angi seems to be okay. She's clearly following Abe's lead since she's new to the Rock format, but that's okay for now. I didn't hear any serious mistakes or unintentionally stupid like the "Tim Raines" thing you mentioned CMNT. I would chalk up her White Sox ignorance to being on Pop radio for so long, where her audience cares way less about sports for the most part (and are potentially too young to remember that Raines was ever on the White Sox as a player or coach).

Walt is smooth and sounds like he never left for Seattle. He's apparently the MD of the station too. Part of the reason why I believe this station will start playing currents (and potentially tilt towards Alternative, albeit much heavier than WKQX) is because of Walt's long background in Alt. Walt is not one who likes to be trapped in the past from everything I heard during his time at WKQX. If the opening is there to start playing currents he will likely take it.

There have been a few songs playing today that I had not previously heard on this station like "Sweetness" by Jimmy Eat World and "The Hand That Feeds" by Nine Inch Nails during Walt's shift. Time will tell, of course, but I am hearing less 70's and 80's rock today than when this station first started a month ago.

I remain unsure over the imaging dude, who sounds a lot like the guy who voices the "Honest Trailers" videos on YouTube. He certainly brings a quirky snark to the comedic skits, but I wonder if it's too over the top.

I know for a fact that Klinger has to be voice-tracked but he recorded that bit about the passing of Eddie Van Halen and introducing "Runnin' With The Devil" so damn fast and professional that it sounded live. Kudos to him.

I think I posted a few back, that they do these filler skits between music sets and they're really freakin' stupid. Like the Slasher one. There are a few others that I am drawing a blank on. It's like they're trying to be funny/stupid to be funny/stupid and it just misses the mark.

Maybe now that there are live DJ's, this will be done away with.

As to her Tim Raines moment, I mean, even though you're not "in to" sports, you typically know who the popular people are/were on Chicago teams. He (Tim) was big enough outside the actual sport of baseball in this town, that being in media, you'd know.

She (Angi), had another gaffe this morning.

They had just played Collective Soul's "December". She commented "Oh, I haven't heard that in awhile!"

I've listened every day at some point, and heard it multiple times this week alone. WTH are you talking about.

She was at a pop station until this week. She actually probably hasn't.
