"Big 98 Country"

Got some nice inversions today that allowed me to listen to WSIX for a little while all the way down here in Alabama.

When did they add "Country" to the name? I'm hearing imaging and jocks (Gerry aside) calling it "Big 98 Country WSIX". And why? Who in Nashville doesn't associate "The Big 98" with country music?

Just curious.

I haven't listened, but it possible they are not referring to the format so much as using it with a double meaning, as in "area"... example, "this is Bear Country". Or maybe "Beer Country" is more appropriate. :D

Looks like the transition is complete -- they're all but abandoning the legendary WSIX call letters on the air. Only hearing "WSIX" now on the legal ID, sporadic jingles, and the website URL...though that's probably going to change soon, too. CC registered "Big98Country.com" on July 14. All the liners and jocks (sans Gerry) simply say "Big 98 Country" and no mention of WSIX. In fact, I might not have noticed had Gerry not been making a big deal of it for the past few days. Such as this morning: "Do we get fined if we say 'WSIX'?"

Those calls have been used since 1927. Shame to see them go away, even if they will still be used legally.

What does it accomplish, though? Obviously, it's being done for PPM purposes.

Romer?

Beatlenut ~ you post on this subject and are "silent" on RQQ? Hmm! :)

RZ, Is this deja vu for the first time ever? Are you Zack Bennett*? If so, I saw your YASNI entries. One of these years you will win. I still miss your Nashvlle radio stations site-

*If not, could you pass it on to him?

Big sounds really stupid and testosterone laden.

Yeah, my post was a while back. I am very bitter about they way I was treated by Cumulus (who isn't?). I've stated my bitterness in earlier posts, but it only gets me angry all over again, and I really need to get over it. You will see me post on RQQ rants again, but it will be a kinder, gentler me (yeah, sure). I may even work for them again, if they aren't too scared to hire me.
