Big announcement on Easy 99.1 coming Monday

probrobly a trip to Aruba move along nothing to see here. Last year they teased us like this and it was nothing.

Most likely a contest. 7:15-7:20 has been a traditional time to announce such things. There was a tradition to also do such things on a Thursday because the Arbitron diaries would run from Thursday through the next Wednesday. Probably not an issue with people meters now. The old tricks of getting people to remember to fill out the diaries don't seem to be relevant now.

I think I remember them doing this last year, and a thread with nearly the exact same subject line and all kinds of speculation was posted here (like this one), and it was just some contest.

That’s my guess (and I’m stickin' to it! ;)).

Maybe a sale to WGBH and an eventual flip (once 'GBH takes over) to a simulcast of WCRB-99.5, restoring a strong signal for Classical Music south of Boston and in Southeastern Massachusetts.

I would think that WGBH has long been looking to buy a station well south of Boston to add to the "Classical New England" network, and WPLM's signal would fit.

Both WCRB and WGBH have plenty of coverage as it is. The Cape and Southern Mass. is well covered for Classical music from WFCC/107.5. Providence has WJMF/88.7 simulcasting WCRB. WPLM-FM is live and LOCAL and has a great signal. Leave well enough alone. I would HATE to see one of the few locally owned FM stations left in Massachusetts to become nothing more than a clone of another out-of-town station.

Now back to the original question.....More than likely, this is another contest. When any station says that something will be announced at 7:15 or 7:20...... you know what it is. It's a contest.

Oh come now, Joseph, you even just outdid yourself! ::)
Do you actually think such a housecleaning format (and audience) change would be promoted on-air, in advance?
Now, if they were augmenting their signal (either increasing or moving it closer to Boston, or adding a translator or bigger signal simulcast——e.g., say, Lynn’s 101.7), that could be a possibility.
But, no, in this case it is all but most certainly a contest or station event (some upcoming concert, etc.). ;)

It's a frigging contest. They did the same thing last year.

How original. But it worked, since everyone here (at least) is talking about it.

Wolf! Wolf!

It is definitely going to be a contest. No format flip or anything. We've seen enough format flips within the last year, and if that were to happen, they wouldn't wait until a weekday morning to announce it, it would just happen all of a sudden. Please don't get too worked up about it.

Speaking of WPLM, although they run Delilah, I think the music selection they pick may actually be local. I know the John Tesh Radio Show has that option. I'm assuming this because when I go on wplm.tunegenie.com, the playlist for the evening hours (when Delilah is on) shows up. Usually if it's a syndicated program, the playlist will not show up. I also noticed something similar on Easy 93.1 down in Miami. They do run Delilah, but the playlist was just like it is during the day.

If you're within range of 96.1 WSRS/Worcester, which Delilah is also on, you could switch back and forth and see if there are playlist changes.

Honestly, you could run a Delilah show with death metal and it wouldn't matter. She never front or back announces anything, just "here's a special song for you" or some other smarmy crap.

It would be really funny to do that... anyone with access to Delilah voice tracks want to make a funny MP3 for the rest of us ;)
