Big APE Morning Zoo

THe Big Ape morning Zoo all resigned today effective in a few weeks. This was not a Cox decision but there own decision. I guess they were tired of being treated like crap from Cat. Plus they were not happy with the amount of money the new morning show was being paid on WFYV.

THey will be missed
 
Please. They were getting their butts kicked by MJ on Kiss. They got out knowing they were about to be canned. The show was OVER. Word at Cox was they were bad mouthing Cat for not paying them more, meanwhile their ratings sucked.
There's their truth, your truth, and then of course....the TRUTH.

How ARE things at Renda? :)

Cat is a pain.

I imagine things are well at Renda last I heard.
 
This sounds a lot like the deal a few years back with Hoyle Dempsey "retiring" from radio.

Enough with the BS already! The fact is that they're being forced out, justified or not.

It's that time of the year friends. All the big shots are cutting budgets. Just last week 5 employees from CC/Jax. 2 weeks ago at least 2 from Renda/Jax. Now it must be Coxs' turn to wave the sword!
 
So if this is all true who will replace them? Are we going to get another syndicated morning show.. I hope not! Radio these days just is awful it seems someone gets fired everyday from it especially around the holidays. Was the reason they were let go or forced to resign because they were not billing well anymore or was it management decision to ax them to try to make more moneyand find a cheaper show? Usually it takes three years to build a solid successful morning show. I hear Clear Channel may be axing some more people as well... What a brutal business...

im sure it was money... anyone think Chase, Jay or the night guy Dave-O could move to mornings?

Then Trane "resigned", next Tony did the same thing and now this. There's not some sort of end of the year trend here is there?

I hear, from a reliable source, that there are more cuts coming to CC. Hey, when you have to make the books look good (for whatever reason), one of the first places you start is your best resource, your people. What a freakin' shame.

I know a lot of people that have been given their walking papers in the last year and most of them have given up on this business ever getting better. It just gets worse year after year. Lately, it's been month after month. And what's more, there are so many GREAT programmers, air talents and prod people that are on the beach and some mediocre and unqualified people that have the jobs! Not all, but SOME. We all can name a few, I'm sure.

Both tony and the Zoo QUIT on their own accord. Neither were forced out. All were fed up with the way they were treated by Cox and Cat Thomas and felt they were underpaid. Considering that the new mronign show of WFYV is getting HUGE money and they zoo were not.

I don't blame them either. But don't you think that there was some psychological effect on the zoo people knowing that the WFYV morning show waas getting the big bucks?

Sometimes, having that knowledge will piss you off to the point where you'll want to leave on your own.

[/quote] Especially when WAPE was kicking WFYV in the ratings. I don't know what the morning break out is but usually so goes Morning Drive, so goes the Radio Station. That's almost always the case in South Florida!

WFYV Morning show waaaaaay overpaid!!

Rumor has it, the GM at Cox paid over $400k for these clowns, including the phone operator. Are you kidding me? That show blows and they have ratings less than 3.0

Nice way to blow your wad of cash....................Cox Radio...spenders on no talent.....
 
If they had any brains at all at Cox they'd put Greg Parker on all 5 radio stations in am and pm drive.

Oh, and if I was the GM I would have named 106.5 "Parker-FM" and just ran his airchecks. :D
 
Big bucks morning shows are the reason the other talent in other dayparts get paid crap. If the AM folks on APE were jealous of the ROCK 105 morning show salaries, The APE Zoo should of kept their ego's in tact. Get a taste what it's like in the real world.
Except for a dozen or so big names on both satellite radio networks eveyrbody else makes nothing. The new radio era ... the Morning Shows get richer and the poor get poorer .. what a country .. this isn't radio .. it's a government of it's own
 
But then again more stations are going to syndicated morning shows. The more live humans a company can cut from their budget the more the stockholders are impressed.

They were down sized with compensation! As a poster said earlier, cut the BS! Nobody quits anymore!

I've got a bit of advice for the Big APE Morning Zoo. When I was let go after the COX buyout of Salem's 106.5, my wife and I packed our bags and moved to Hawaii. Now I am a kayak tour guide and surf on my days off...you'd be surprised what a step away from this crazy biz will do ya. Good luck and God speed my friends, I can't complain!

radiosnuts whats up my big fella... good to hear the sunny skies and great weather is treating you nicely over in Hawaii...say hello to your wife for me.... the office is not the same... nothing has changed back at home in jville we are still killing people and the mayor has no clue whats going on either so all is well here.
