I'm really hoping that stations don't go down the VHF road. Unless you're already in a VHF-only or clearly mixed (V/U) market, in many areas people are buying UHF-only antennas. I have found even with power increases, it is very difficult for me to receive VHF DTV stations with an indoor antenna as I can with UHF stations that are similarly situated. I really like the idea of putting almost all the OTA content up on a satellite either free-to-air or at a very low cost. Conceivably if this would be an all new service, it could be set up as 100% MPEG-4/H.264 from the beginning, which would mean it wouldn't take much satellite space for the national subchannel/diginet feeds.
