I don't know if any of you have given this much thought... But, I've noticed that the only other black person on big boi's show is fuzzy who rarely is given airtime... Big boi is married to a latina... His co-hosts are latinos... Latinos win most contests on his show... Has he forgotten where he comes from? Why aren't there any black co-hosts whom your black listeners can relate to? It's bad enough that there aren't many of us represented in the L.A. radio market so can he please diversify his show?? I get tired of hearing about latin culture that I can't relate to... "Chos"..."Tattoo"... "Dawg"... Nonsense!

You're kidding right? Latinos are EVERYWHERE!!! Why do you think there are so many Spanish speaking radio stations? He is only trying to appeal to the majority.

47% of Bib Boy's audience in LA is Hispanic, while about 30% is Black and the rest is "other" per Arbitron. Obviously, the largest group is Hispanic so a good deal of attention to that group will be given. It's called serving the listners.

By the way, it should be pointed out that it is not only Big Boy who is trying to super serve the Hispanic community....it is what KPWR is doing by design. The other dayparts are of similar percentages.

Yeah, I don't believe KPWR has ever been "Urban" -- i.e., targeted mostly to the Black community. It has always been "Rhythmic," which tends to attract more Hispanics than Blacks, especially here in LA.

Other folks have given you thoughts on the subject, but perhaps it's just that you've made way too much out of your own observations.

Big Boi caters to his West Coast audience. His style has served him so well that he's being syndicated nationally by Citadel Media, even in East Coast markets like New York City. Latinos/Latinas are part of the audience, Black folks are part of the audience, but 'the audience' overall is made up of young people favorable to hip-hop, which isn't exclusively Black, Latino(a), or whatever.

and just FYI, its Big B-O-Y, not B-O-I (of Outkast fame).

I agree with this assessment. I don't know your age, but I think the Millennial generation and younger were brought up on multiculturalism. I don't see Big Boy's show as targeting anything more than young, urban, hip hop fans. Sure, the majority of LA, especially in the younger demos, is Latino, so the show may appear to skew this way.

Personally, I'm 28 and White and grew up flipping between Big Boy and Kevin & Bean for the last 15 years. I think Big Boy's show, in particular, is a better representation of the diversity of our area than any other morning show, though.

Look at the On Air Personalities of most Rhythmic fomatted Stations around the country and tell me what you see.
