DID ANYONE NOTICE? I HEARD BIG BOY IN BAKERSFIELD ON PLAY 103.9
 
Yes I heard him. Music is MUCH better on his show than REGULAR KBDS programming maybe because Eman is programming the music via Power 106 LA. Maybe KBDS will learn to play hit records. I also noticed that the seque from Big Boys network feed and Plays music riding over each other. Who set their cue tones? Will Big Boy help KBDS? Doubt it when you have a strong morning show and the rest of the day parts cant even compare to polished jocks from KPWR. Just my opinion. Dont get me wrong personally I have respect for Mikey Rock hes a great guy. The big question is WHAT WILL BIG BOY DO FOR KBDS?
 
As popular as Big Boy is, I doubt he will beat Romeo on KISV Hot 94.1. American General Media may need to bring in another player to keep Romeo on top but as crude as he sometimes sounds,his listeners love to hate him.The much larger question is what will happen when Lotus launches a station to compete with KISV and KBDS?
I spoke with an employee at Buckley over the weekend and she told me that Lotus is already fishing around to possibly hire away local talent and sales.Why the called Buckley for those two things is a mystery.J/K ;D

Also heard another rumor that Mingo who used to work in market and I think with Romeo may be returning to be on one of Bakersfield's spanish stations.
 
KBDS will do nothing in numbers with Big Boy in the morning. There running out of options and doing way too much to try and get their ratings up. How dumb is it to have Big Boy on in the morning on KBDS Monday thru Friday and then on KISV on Sunday mornings and all in the same market. KBDS needs to either flip formats or fire there entire air staff and hire new jocks who know the format and not some dumb ass idiot jocks who know nothing about hiphop and should be working on spanish radio stations.
 
It seems that Big Boy might work for Play but again they do something and no one knows about it, how do they expect to gain listenership by not marketing the fact that they do have BIG BOY, is he supposed to have a magic wand? basic programming 101, c'mon! I am not hating, Play has a good playlist and they have potential, get rid of the mid-day guy, promote/market BIG BOY and they should do just fine, is it going to happen? i don't think so but hey what do I know!

Mingo coming to Bakes on a Spanish station? LOL

I have learned a lot over the last couple of years and I would DOMINATE that market without a doubt!
 
Seems like a lot of bashing this "little engine that could" station. They deserve a TON of props. To still even be on the air with what is easily the crappiest signal in the metro is amazing. Especially going up against a BLOWTORCH on 94.1 with 3 times the budget. Putting Big Boy on in the morning is a good cost effective move for PLAY. If they can keep the budget low, they can make money and survive. It'll never beat KISV in the numbers... EVEN THEY KNOW THAT.
 
KISV should look into a breach of contract with BB's syndication and check for any non compete clause with the legal team that they have. But then again is it even worth the hassle of going to court over a syndicated show?

Mingo want to do mornings again together and really stir up some thangs again? LOL Just playing .... KBDS should just blow everyone out hire a staff of experienced programmers, promotions, and talent. Then again we're in Bakersfield and Radio groups are cheap, tight and could careless if their staff can afford feed their family,and to put gas in their cars to get to and from work. What a concept pay the people that make you money and maybe you will have a staff of good jocks and not some college radio dj's (if that) trying to be professionals....

I listened to Big Boy all morning.He will never beat Romeo.

Competition for Romeo will only come in the form of a smart GM at another hip-hop or new hip-hop station hiring away
talent from KISV. When I say talent I mean the on air staff like Randy,Dirty, and the other known jocks.
 
Randy is like the furniture there. He is to valuble to leave AGM. Evan and I taught him very well from the first day as an intern when we were on 19th st. I knew he had the passion for this disease called radio. Dirty is a very polished jock if the moneys right would he roll out? Only he would know that answer... New comer Dru-ski from KBDS who is now at KISV has made major progress from the departure of KBDS. The other jocks from KISV are happy with what they have the only one that I would see that would be willing to leave my bet would be Kevin. Although sometimes jumping ship to gain something may not be the best thing for you carrer. Now leaving on your terms is the best thing to do make sure its the thing that you want to do.
 
I would not be surprised to see Randy or J.Reed get a shot at a bigger market in the near future. Sac, SD, Phx, etc.

Once the economy begins to rebound and a larger market begins to search out some up and coming talent - those are the guys that could get the call.

Not sure if either would leave AGM, but if an offer was decent...you never know.
