Big Boy's Neighborhood

LA's Big Boy's Neighborhood on at The Beat? It's a good show, but THIS IS MIAMI!! I'd prefer a local morning show. Besides, Prince Markie D did a terrific job when he filled-in before they tried out Big Tigger. They should build a morning show around him and bump up Papa to afternoons and bring in a jock that'll light up Miami at night. Night-time radio in Miami is HORRID!!

I keep reading on this board the same comments about not wanting syndicated shows in Miami. Yes Howard was on here, Opie and Anthony are on here, Elvis Duran and The Y Morning Zoo are on here. Big Boy is replacing Star and Buc-Wild who were syndicated. If done right, it's not a bad thing. Just because someone is local, doesn't make them good. If you can get market 1 or 2 talent in market 12, when perhaps nobody even close to as good is available to move to Miami, it's a good thing. Only time will tell on Big Boy et al. He is tops in all his demos in LA. Give him a chance.

Wow..I make a bunch of points and you nit pick one. Forgive me if I was off in my numbers. I suppose I was going n hearsay. However, that wasn't the point of my posting. It was that out of town talent isn't necessarily a bad thing by nature of it's location. It works all over the country and has worked in Miami.

"Nitpicking" is not saying that your post is inaccurate because you stated that Big Boy was tops (that meansw #1) in "his deemos" when he is nowehre near the top in most demos. Granted, some syndicated morning shows work, like Stern did and Joyner usually does. But most don't work well nationally, because we happen to have 4 time zones inn the US (not counting PR, Alaska and Hawai'i.)

The industry has recognized Big Boy by naming him Personality of the Year four times from the Radio Music Awards and the same honor three times from Radio and Records magazine. The National Association of Broadcasters has also recognized Big Boy’s exceptional talent with the Marconi Award which is the “Oscars of Radio” in both 2002 and 2004.Ratings fluctuate, he may down this book. BUT, he is HUGE is LA. Don't mind the know-it-alls on this board.

He WAS huge in LA. He is not now. Time will tell if this can be recovered, especially with the whole station out of the top 10. KXOL stole a significant portion of the Hispanics, and the biggest hope will be that they can replace that group with more Black audience now that KKBT is out of the hip hop arena and more AC. At one time, Gunsmoke was the #1 TV show, too. This is media. Things change.

My problem with syndicated radio shows, be it Big Boy, Stern, Tom Joyner, Opie & Anthony is this...A good morning show, as well as any syndicated "jock" program (Not American Top 40 or shows like that) should give a person that "LOCAL" Feel. No out of state show i've heard does that. Sure, you can have local news, weather & sports, but like Howard, you knew the characters, but it was mostly NY based jabber. Didn't matter what Stern did...it was all NY based. I'm not from NY, so I really don't care about it. Local morning shows do things based on what's happening around town...you know what they're talking about....places, people, landmarks, stuff like that. Something syndication doesn't do for you, no matter how many local cut-in's you do. It's not the same. I'd rather listen to a decent (notice the word...I didn't say great or fantastic) sounding morning show that lets me know what's happening where > I < live and i'm happy. I don't care what is going on 1000-3500 miles from me.

OK Stu so you're not a real big fan of 'Elvis Duran & The Y Morning Zoo'. ;)I'm listening to it (if only because my radio at work is stuck on Y-100 regardless), and at times it can be rather entertaining. They are trying real hard to incorporate the Miami audience into the discussions and promotions, but I so totally agree with you as far as a good local morning show. It's just not the same.I'm curious as to how the ratings will look for the syndicated Zoo. I'm also (deep-down) hoping that Y-100 has not all-together given up and totally abandoned the entire local morning show concept.NOW - Having said all of that - regarding local talent - this midday voice-tracking stunt with Ashlee and Kane from 93.3-FLZ is constantly showing its flaws (the poor sound quality of the jocks notwithstanding - I won't harp on that anymore). The other day Kane was (perhaps unintentionally) ranting and raving on Y-100 about traffic problems galore on I-275 ! We here in Miami could care less what happens on that wonderful expressway through the Greater Tampa Bay area !With just Michael Yo and Adam Bomb now we only have 8 out of 24 hours of Y-100's broadcast day that is actually local. Is it just my imagination or was voicetracking pretty much unheard of on Y-100 before 2006 began ? Now it's a full two-thirds of the broadcast day ! Can we please save this heritage ?THE MAJOR

Major- I can't tell you when the Y started the voice tracking. All I know is that it is a cost-cutting measure that corporations like Clear Channel, Inifinity, Emmis, Cox and alot of the rest are doing.....doing on the way to ruining radio. The idea of radio going jukebox is outrageously stupid. Do they think that they'll keep listeners over XM and Sirius by doing this? Hope not, because they're in for a big suprise. No matter what Programmers and Consultants think, most people want to have that connection with a REAL person....Real meaning LIVE! Can you imagine if there was a terrible crisis, and your station was voice tracking? How foolish would that be if 70% of the market was covering it, and your station is tracking...making it sound totally oblivious to what is happening. "THIS JUST IN FROM CNN...THE WORLD HAS ENDED"....meanwhile your station breaks..."That was Gloria Estefan and Conga on a beautiful South Florida Night".....Tracking......GET RID OF IT!
