Its sad to see what is happening in Huntsville. Cumulus just proved again they are the worst company to work for in radio. They are the Wal Mart of Radio. You have a news staff up for major awards and they are congradulated on all the hard work with being fired. How can anyone take anything Cumulus execs and programmers have to say seriously? They are all consumate liars. I bet just prior to this they were all telling the VNN staff how great things were but sadly there would not be a bonus for them reguardless.
ZYP in the glory days of 1983-1993 was a monster, they were known nationwise as a place to get started. If you had ZYP on your resume, you could go almost anywhere you wanted. Look at all the talent that has gone through that place. Sadly an intelligent market like Huntsville will get scrap, minimum wage satellite newscasters and crap for local coverage.
Its time the FCC started inforcing the part of the license that reads "public" Like trying to get a weather warning at 2am. Relying on one EAS announcement for a tornado is crazy. And it should be illegal.
I agree with Carson, ZYP and VNN are shadows of their former selves under Athens Broadcasting. Bill might have been tough to work for at times, but he never skimped on a contest and people always had a job. He always provided those guys with the best equipment money could buy. I remember the days when VNN was being built, like around 1988-1989 under Dave Stone (Fox Sports Radio) Brian Sargent (Knoxville) Brett Michaels (he, and John Garrett helped rebuild Y102 in Montgomery ten years ago and Cumulus screwed them too) Scott Reed (the consumate professional who is still hanging in there) Those guys put in long hours and dedication to build that station up to where the others took over and went FM and all.
The day will come when they will dump these stations because people like this never succeed in the long run, they only succeed in running things into the ground and ruining the business for veterans
