Big Changes at WTHI, WLFI newscasts

According to the Terre Haute Tribune-Star, the layoff of anchor Patrece Dayton and meteorologist Kevin Orpurt yesterday is just the beginning. Both had been on the anchor desk for WTHI-TV since the 1980s. A long time producer was also let go Thursday.

General manager Todd Weber was also laid off in the last couple months, after 22 years in management at WTHI-TV. The General manager role was eliminated and a regional vice president oversees WTHI-TV.

But there is more coming. Quoting the Tribune-Star:

In other developments, sources say the rollout of a new “hubbed” format is expected to begin next week. Among the changes, WTHI newscasts starting next week will have portions replaced with centralized content fed from WLFI Lafayette.

In the future, changes are also expected to occur in weekend news.

This comes as WLFI had its own layoffs last month and reports of other large scale layoffs around Allen Media Group: Exodus of WLFI on-air personalities raises eyebrows; station doesn't comment

Apparently WTHI's morning meteorologist Brady Harp is no longer with the station, according to a Facebook post from him. He didn't stipulate if it was his choice, but it was apparently sudden. While looking at this, I also noticed the morning anchor is no longer there.

In less than a year, WTHI has lost a lot of talent. To summarize:
- Sports anchor Rick Semmler, laid off in April
- General Manager Todd Weber, laid off in October
- This Morning anchor Heather Good, left on her own terms in January
- Evening anchor Patrece Dayton, laid off last week
- Evening meteorologist Kevin Orpurt, laid off last week
- This Morning meteorologist Brady Harp, let go this week

In TV we used to talk about the "Front Four", the team who you would see in station promotions or billboards. WTHI has lost five of its "Front Six" counting both the morning and evening shifts in about 9 months.

WTHI-TV has continued to bleed talent since my last check.

- Evening anchor Rondrell Moore quit in February for a job with Indiana State University.
- Sports anchor Marty Ledbetter quit in February for a job with WTWO-TV/Terre Haute.
- Weekend anchor/general reporter Madison Zaleski quit at the end of January, and now works as a reporter in Ft. Meyers, Fla.
