BIG changes coming to Mid-Ohio

A little birdie told me Clear Channel is making some moves in the middle of the state.

From a reliable source:
In the coming weeks, "983 and 1077 KISS-FM" will disappear, Y105 will drop Hot AC and go with CHR, and "The Fox" will move to 98.3 and 107.7
I didn't hear what would happen to 102.3 My source did not know the plan there.
"Lite-FM" to go after Mix 106 WVNO, perhaps?

The Fox Shall Be On THREE TOWERS OF POWER!

Y105 goes Hits and Kiss goes Rock

Yes my friend, I heard something very similar.

WYHT FM 105.3 will soon become TODAYS HITS - Y105 (A watered down CHR)
WWBK FM 98.3 along with
WFXN FM 102.3 plus you can't forget about
WBZW FM 107.7 all will become THE FOX ROCK NETWORK, 3X THE TOWERS=3X THE POWER
WNCO FM 101.3 stays NORTH CENTRAL OHIO'S COUNTRY GIANT 101.3 WNCO
WMAN AM 1200 stays the same along with
WNCO AM 1340 staying the same!

As for Hot AC in Mid Ohio, don't worry... It will be coming soon. All I heard is that another station nearby or in town is going to segue into a Modern AC.

Re: Y105 goes Hits and Kiss goes Rock

What I put together, let no large radio group put asunder...

I am the one that created the 98.3-107.7 combo a decade ago with K-Country.
I cannot believe with all the changes in the local landscape that these two would still be linked and with the same call letters.

FYI- I had attempted to purchase 102.3 to do this very thing with K-Country but Ashland Broadcasting beat me to it.

Mark Bohach

Oh like we need it on THREE SIGNALS!

WQEL 92.7 Bucyrus possibly? Weren't they purchased by Saga?
What about WQIO 93.7 Mount Vernon when BAS takes over?

It's Clear Channel, they save money this way and dont need a studio for 98.3/107.7 in Ashland after the sale goes thru of 93.7 and Kiss has to move, by putting 102.3's Fox format on 98.3/107.7 its one less studio in Ashland :)

Im kinda sad to see Kiss possibly leave 98.3/107.7, Y105 has never been a true CHR, growing up I remeber listening to them when they leaned CHR, it was always watered down before CC got a hold of them and they segued to Hot AC.
______________

Makes sense.

Look for Y105 to take a WNCI-ish approach musically.

What they'll do with the Y105 airstaff is the 10 Million Dollar question.

No doubt!

Y105/KISS music

WYHT has already tweaked their website with a new logo and two new positioning statements:

ALL THE HITS

YOUR HIT MUSIC STATION

Sample hour from the website's "Last 10 Played"

Holla Back Girl/Gwen Stefani
Look What You've Done/Jet
Collide/Howie Day
Behind These Hazel Eyes/Kelly Clarkson
This Is How a Heart Breaks/Rob Thomas
When It's Over/Sugar Ray
Rich Girl/Gwen Stefani / Eve
Holiday/Green Day
Drops of Jupiter/Train
Since U Been Gone/Kelly Clarkson

They look like a focused Adult Top 40 now. The funny thing about this is that from what I understand, 98-3/107-7 KISS FM was cleaning up in Mansfield/Mt. Vernon, outperforming 'YHT. KISS is much more of a traditional CHR:

We Belong Together/Mariah Carey
Karma Alicia Keys / Stevie Wonder
Summer Nights Lil' Rob
Kiss Soldier Custom/ Destiny's Child
Let Me Go 3 Doors Down
I Need A Girl P. Diddy / Usher / Loon
These Boots Are Made for Walkin' Jessica Simpson
Better Now Collective Soul
1, 2 Step Ciara / Missy Elliot
My Sacrifice Creed

Will "meeting halfway" like this fuse KISS and Y105's listeners togteher happily? CC must think so.

Kiss Mid-Ohio was one of the best programmed CHR's in Ohio IMHO. They weren't so focused on being a current-only CHR. It's sad to see mid-Ohio stuck with a weak (not the signal) CHR again on Y105. I'll miss them on my trips up 71 to Cleveland.
______________

Great, just what they need, another WNCI. Hey we're Top 40, no we're Hot AC, oh now we're Top 40 again... what a mess of indecision.
______________

Kelly twice (much as I do love her music) in the last 10 songs? Guess they must not know how to work "selector" :) I'd like to see Y105 go FULL CHR.. but we all know it will be a Adult CHR station and lack a lot of the CHR content out now.

Gwen Stefani twice in the last 10 as well. They're both good artists and all, but c'mon--this isn't Beatlemania here. Little variety, please. Even Top 40 has no excuse for this.

Hopefully that was just a sample and not the true last ten spun songs...
Though,
I have heard WNCI here in Columbus play 3 "same artist" songs within 90 minutes before, and repeat the same song within an hour.
______________

Re: Y105/KISS music

It was taken straight from their LAST 10 PLAYED at www.wyht.com

It's their first day with the new Adult CHR lean, cut 'em a little slack guys!

It's not uncommon for hyper-current CHR's to spin artists close from time to time (within 30 minutes of each other) but it remains to be seen if this is the approach Y105 is taking as an Adult CHR. Most Adult Top 40's have a pretty wide library and don't turn their currents over so quickly.

I'm sure it's all a work in progress and there are more tweaks and changes to come.

It's very apparent by your comments that the both of you don't know the average turnover on CHR.

It's very apparent that I don't care.

Is it right to repeat the same song by the same artist within an HOUR? That's a pretty high turn over. I dont profess to be a know it all but I know the avg listener is turned off by that stuff. Why do you think satellite radio and ipods are soo popular... People dont want to hear 50 Cent every 5 seconds.

anyways, Best wishes to CC, hopefully they can make Y105 what KISS FM is or soon to be "was" ... Apperently from what everyone has said it was a popular station in mid ohio.
______________

If it's apparant you don't care why post? Not being smart just would like to hear your opinion besides short comments.

Also I agree...cut them a little slack but...watch repeating songs so often. It is a turn off. I belive that is why alot of people are switching to either Country or Classic Rock, or like Lenks posted...IPODS - Satelite. People want variety.

The New Y-105 is in the works and making the transition from my understanding. It is to be Implemented on Sept. 1st same with the switch to 3 Towers Of Power.

Let's wait and see what happens. From my understanding I have reason to be opitmistic
