Big Changes Coming To Q104

I see. I can just hear some people now. Hire Ravenna Miceli! Hire Rocco the Rock Dog! Hire Scott Howitt! Hire Denny Sanders and (insert any radio DJ you like from 1970s or 1980s) as well. Q104 does have a habit of hiring new voices to the town so hopefully they bring in someone different and not someone who should have retired 20 years ago.

Who does that station target anyway? Teens & Women 12-24?

Guessing the new-ish afternoon girl is probably heading out the door. Never clicked. Night guy to afts. New night host incoming.

Capulet, Q is a Top 40-leaning Hot AC. Targets women 18-49 primarily.

Thanks. That target sounds a bit too broad to me.......31 year age difference.
What does a 18 or 19 year old woman have in common with a 48 or 49 year old woman? Country music can be 18-80, but I always thought Hot AC meant tight focus on young ( 18-24 ) women.

So afternoons and nights are changing? What about weekends, mornings and middays? Even format wise and is WDOK affected too?

I guessing you can also throw in the possibility of syndication too. This is big! I'm hoping the current afternoon host sticks around. She's good on the station.

18-49 is an actual Arbitron/PPM demo, take it up with them. :)

KISS would be more 18-24 based than Q, but they're probably both fighting for the same females/persons 18-34 demo overall.

6+ is also an Arbitron demo also, but it's not a target audience. ;)

Most stations target a smaller cell........like 18-24, 25-34, and so forth. If they can dominate the narrow target cell, they can usually rank in the broad Arbitron demos like 18-49, or 35+ or whatever.

But anyway, thanks for the update on Q104. I can honestly say that's a station I never listen to.

That's my hunch. Heather B had a following in Montreal (at rhythm-leaning CHR CFJM/96.1 "VirginFM") and that station has experienced recent turnover of late. Would have to check, but I wouldn't be shocked if VirginFM lured her back.

Q104 is usually defined as an "Adult Top 40" in trades and whatnot. (IMO, most "Adult Top 40" stations are 85-90% close to being a CHR anyway.) Sandusky's WCPZ/102.7 - which utilizes the Dial-Global Local Hot AC service - is another Hot AC that has decidedly leaned more towards CHR.

If that was to be true, Heather didn't seem like she was in Cleveland very long. I think she's only been at Q since March. Sounds like the station wants to go in a different direction.

They should change their morning show though. Maybe a new host along with Toohey instead of Fee. Speaking of mornings, I think Katherine Boyd has settled nicely as the fill-in host. Wouldn't be surprised if she gets a regular role at Q.

Unfortunately, if Heather does leave, this will remind me of when Q had a very unstable lineup between 1999 and 2007 with changes every year or so on weekdays/weeknights. (Uh, anyone remember "Logan" or "Brandy?")

The most stable Q104 was when they had Rebecca Wilde and Allan Fee mornings, Tim Richards middays, Jen Toohey afternoons and Rob Kruz evenings. That lineup was strong for three years until Rob left for D.C.

I hope whoever they get will last longer than Heather. I do hope Kory does get afternoons. He's proven to be a great hire for the station, and is enjoyable to hear too.

What's the possiblity of Q running Billy Bush's (he of "Access Hollywood" fame) nightly syndicated show with Kory taking over PMD?

It wouldn't be too far out of the ordinary to run a show like this...WDOK has Delilah, The Fish has John Tesh, and WMMS has Nikki Sixx.

It would send the younger listeners back to Kiss FM because they would rather hear music than celebrity gossip Which you can already hear on Kiss Fm when they play Ryan Seacrest. Also CBS radio had Billy Bush on in Baltimore at their hot AC there and dumped him when listeners tuned him out.

Billy Bush is extremely annoying. He's not worth seeing or hearing. FOX 8 did Cleveland a favor by sacking Access Hollywood Live and moving AH to late nights.

WKDD has dumped Bush's show since listeners wanted more music and fewer talk segments. Didn't Keith Kennedy say on Twitter that Bush never really clicked in Akron?

Don't think Q104 will add Bush's show. They're likely remain local from 5am until Midnight on weekdays/weeknights. I'm now wondering if there are more than one new voice coming to the station.

BTW, Big Dave from Jammin' 92 back-in-the-day is now doing fill-ins on Q. Maybe he might get a full-time gig there. We shall see.

One voice/gentleman that I think deserves a shot spent years doing quality work at WDOK, but can still be considered a fresh voice. I'm talking about John Elmo. He was live overnights and did a good amount of fill-in on afternoon drive on 102.1 FM. He has a professional delivery with a youthful sound that would fit right in. I often thought that he would be a better fit on WQAL.

Anybody consider the possibility they may move Tim Richards to PMD and have fresh blood during middays?

Have you seen how Q104's ratings compared to Kiss Fm's? I think Billy Bush would be a would be a ratings loss for them. So let it be live talent. They'd the rating going good for them.

I will say that I've rarely listened to the morning show after Jen replaced Rebecca. It hasn't been too good since the changes. Feels like the AM show is missing something. There's also been two changes in the producer role in this year alone.

Could there be a shift in music too? Maybe go Mainstream CHR? They've been playing more newer tunes than anything before 2000. Make sense since they're using the "Today's Best Music" slogan. Better than "90's and Now" leading into an 80's tune ten years ago.

That could, though, leave Cleveland without a Hot AC if Q104 does go Top 40. Then there has to be a staff overhaul for sure.
