Nexstar has just been handed the keys to the KGET building (NBC17, TheCW, & KKEY/Telemundo) and word on the street is that BIG cuts are coming! Insiders are reporting that in some cases, entire departments have been given notice and/or the pink slip as Nexstar moves to consolidate, automate, centralize, and streamline its latest acquisition. There are some very talented and long-time employees there that have been with the station through multiple eras of ownership and affiliation & call-letter changes. Really too bad to see some of them get the axe... But progress (and cost-cutting) are inevitable.
Look for the same to happen in Fresno as Nexstar moves to combine operations of its newly acquired CBS affiliate KGPE, and it's soon-to-be acquired NBC station KSEE, creating a powerful duopoly in the market. With at least 5 newly-owned TV stations (two NBC, one CBS, a CW, and a TeleMundo) in the southern Central Valley area, Nexstar appears to be uniquely positioned to become a formidable force in the local television market...
