BIG DAY TUESDAY, NOV. 2ND

KTAR, KFYI, ETC.

Tuesday and Wednesday, there will be no shortage of things to talk and hypothesize about in talk radio. BIG day, BIG week.

Watch this post stay at the top at least through Thursday.

Or not.

Thankfully the political ads will vanish as if by magic and we can get back to personal hygiene products and bellowing automobile commercials - you know, the truthful ones.

Hooray! Election Day-- the most exciting day of the year!

Most exciting day of the year? Thought it was the day the temp hits 100 degrees! All seriousness aside, should be a real yawner on the radio as 98% of those who give a rip will get the news from the Net or TV.

Well we better not have tape-delayed Dave Ramsey on all night on KTAR beginning at 7:00 P.M. I expect "Arizona's Largest Radio News Team" will have Mac and Gaydos extend their stay on Election Day past 7:00 P.M. If we're lucky, maybe they'll be teamed up with Pat McMahon, the Click Chick and Hollywood Dave.

I would consider it a great Election Day if we didn't hear Dave Ramsey at all tomorrow. Of course, that's less likely to happen than Goddard pulling off the upset against female Skeletor!

Well I don't have tv since I couldn't afford to pay the cable bill because of the economy, which is why I'm voting with my wallet tomorrow.

Once again, Bruce St James hit it

PRECISELY ON THE HEAD!

It's almost like he's seeing an intensely powerful psychic, who's like a human version of google- a google that only searches for and finds the thoughts that occupy my mind, and then transfers my organized thoughts to Bruce St James in written form for Bruce to read verbatim on air.

FROM THE VERY MOMENT I TUNED IN,

BAM - He was already saying PRECISELY what I was thinking! He was basically saying Republicans should not think that suddenly everybody loves them because this vote is based more on emotion than factual and knowledgeable thinking. People are basically doing the exact opposite of what they did two years ago. Two years ago, it was a vote against the Republicans and Bush. Now, it's a vote against the Democrats, and the entire thing is being judged and based mostly on emotion.

It's not like I even had to WAIT or HOPE that he says it, and even in cases when I do think "he needs to say this... he should say that.. explain it this way..", HE ALWAYS EVENTUALLY DOES IT - WITHIN 10 MINUTES! Normally during his show, I'm actually jumping up and down pointing at the radio in disbelief, walking out of the room then reentering to make sure I'm not dreaming!

Now, I know you're probably thinking what he said here wasn't THAT big of a deal - anybody could've said that, but... it's just the way he does it, and keep in mind that this is just ONE example of an issue topic he's done it with. It seems to happen with me on BASICALLY EVERY ISSUE he discusses! As much as I love rhythmic and top 40/dance radio mixes, I'll say Bruce St James's show is like the A.M. talk radio version of an all weekend holiday mix!

Maybe I should just retire from talking and just pay Bruce to speak for me. He can speak in behalf of me during interviews, conversations with a girlfriend, when it comes to settling family matters, etc. Why? Because I can guarantee that he will say it clearly and better with far less wording and explanations to clarify it afterwards. I'm sure he's misunderstood a lot, but I'd rather someone who can use common sense AND explain it clearer with LESS wording be misunderstood than someone who went through the trouble of preparing an entire speech and will have to prepare another speech to explain the first speech that was delivered in the first place then answer questions regarding both speeches afterwards!

Oh, and by the way, I was not being serious about the "voting with my wallet" thing.

I wonder; why he didn't call the newstalk stations?

This day is getting more and more interesting EVERY minute.

The reason the president would call a hip-hop station as opposed to news-talk is a very simplistic one: Jocks don't know anything about politics... there's a reason they're on a hip-hop station, they are political lightweights who ask celebrities questions about what they eat, what time they get up and when their new album will be "dropping". If I were the president I'd want to get lobbed nothing but love and softballs all day, too! Also, the strategic advantage of calling a hip-hop station lies in it's demographics. Most CHRs target 18-34 Females... and in the case of a rhythmic leaning station, it's 18-34 minority females... which is the demographic that this president still carries some clout. It's a no-brainer really.

As for your previous post:

I offered that analysis on my podcast more than two months ago! That's not exactly witty, nor insightful stuff... but for this market which is so lackluster in terms of talent, I guess that passes for reasonable analysis. Aside from Jim Sharpe... Barry without Michelle (on occasion) and the lovable one... news/talk in this market is worthless.

I knew most of that - in regards to the Power 106 thing. Some of my comments here were really nothing more than an attempt to generate response. As far as the second part, my response is

Keep in mind that this example I used for why I like the Bruce St James may not be the best, but it is just ONE example out of many. What he actually said here wasn't the point. The point was how he, out of all people, actually says specifically what I'm hoping for him to say or delivers his message in a certain fashion to get a point across clearly, and seems to ALWAYS do it - exactly how I believe he should. He's very clear and detailed. Most others either just don't touch the topic, or

1. talk about it with no explanation and it's you get it or you don't, or
2. they repeat themselves or constantly say (Like I said, just because I said that, doesn't mean I'm...) trying to avoid being called (fill in blank here), and (everyone's favorite one - ) OR
3. **** they are just talking without even meaning what they say (because they are "all" fakes).

Why would any politician call a station with listeners that are already pre-disposed to vote for him/her? Seems to me the pol would want to get their message across to the undecided or opposition to try to garner new support.

The message was "don't stay home." Mid-terms always get lesser participation from groups that are young (not a habit of voting in lesser elections) and minorities (tendency to be lesser participants in Senate and House races). I think that was a pretty smart move, in fact.

I should clarify this more.

1. talk about it with no explanation and it's you get it or you don't, or
2. they repeat themselves or constantly say (Like I said, just because I said that, doesn't mean I'm...) trying to avoid being called (fill in blank here),

OR (everyone's favorite one),

3. they are just talking for a paycheck without even meaning what they say (because ALL talk show hosts are fakes).
