Big E-skip opening Friday 7/23...at least 20 NEW / 2nd-farthest FM ever!

...But before I get to my logs, extra, extra. Randy Zerr in Goldfield, NV (RVing), who logged my locals and eventually also had K236AH Synarep WA (KNCW) on 95.1 on 7/14 (with 1 watt!!!!) had a double-hop opening several hours before my 7/23 opening, told us on the skip log he almost fell out of his chair when he heard what it was. He had several stations from Villahermosa, Tabasco MX up through 99.1, and multiple stations from Coban, Guatemala!!! 2,250 miles!! Take a look! Scroll down to where his Eskip logs begin at UTC time, and scroll down to where he gets Villahermosa and TG-- callsigns. https://www.fmlist.org/fm_logmap.php?datum=2021-07-23&omid=6163&band=ALL

Now, onto the show. This was one heck of an E-skip opening, one of the longest openings I have worked this season. Over 3 hours worth of Es to NE, KS, OK, CO, IA, WY, and one station from MN even popped in briefly. Our own DX_Sphere (in Moses Lake, 60 mi E of Ellensburg) had 2Es from WRKF-89.3 Baton Rouge, Louisiana as well! Worked this on both the reliable Pioneer Supertuner in the Hyundai and a little bit on the 909X to null out semi-locals. A single-hop long RECORD (2nd farthest FM ever), short skip to WY and hour(s) of Kansas heard!

5:28PM - 95.5 KWYY Midwest, WY; with weather forecast for Casper. Unexpected first log! NEW #906, 100KW at 755 miles.
5:29PM - 97.9 KTAG Cody, WY; short skip! ID 'K-Tag' mixed with KZTB/Milton-Freewater. NEW #907, 100KW at only 574 miles! That's about as short as Ellensburg-Sacramento, which I had several stations from on 7/14.
5:29PM - UNID *very strong* 93.5 country station, Kenny Chesney song, RDS ID was only song/artist 'on 93-5 Country'. No calls or branding. Highly suspect KWYX Casper WY. Wyoming stations later faded.
5:31PM - 97.3 KOBM Blair, NE; local ads mentioning Omaha. Relog, 25KW at 1252 miles.
5:32PM - 103.7 KXKT Glenwood, IA; thought this was Casper WY at first, but a nice surprise from the Omaha area. Promo for morning show on 'Kat 103.7'. NEW #908, 100KW at 1270 miles.
5:32PM - 104.5 KSRZ Omaha, NE; not even 30 seconds after logging 103.7 Omaha, soft rock music and ID 'Star'. NEW #909, 98KW at 1270 miles.
5:33PM - 107.9 (top of band!) KLTE Kirksville, MO; Bott Radio mentions. Long skip, NEW #910, 97KW at 1455 miles.
5:33PM - 106.7 KQKX Norfolk, NE; on a roll hitting IDs, about 30 or 45 seconds after KLTE, ID 'Kix Country' and northeast Nebraska mentions. Relog, 100KW at 1174 miles.
5:35PM - 94.1 KQCH Omaha, NE; RDS 'Channel 94.1', current pop music. Relog, 95KW at 1270 miles.
5:36PM - 94.7 KNEN Norfolk, NE; local ads for Norfolk. Relog, 100KW at 1174 miles.
5:37PM - 92.3 KEZO Omaha, NE; RDS and classic rock. Relog, 95KW at 1270 miles.
5:43PM - 99.1 KMA-FM Clarinda, IA; promo for finding information on county fairs in the listening area "at KMAland.com." NEW #911, 100KW at 1338 miles.
5:44PM - 89.7 KIWR Council Bluffs, IA; quickly jumped down to 89.7 and found an ID sweeper mentioning 'The Cutting Edge of Rock.' Slam dunk! NEW #912, 100KW at 1270 miles.
5:45PM - 95.5 KAAN-FM Bethany, MO; with St. Louis Cardinals baseball. Relog, 50KW at 1390 miles.
5:47PM - 105.9 KKCD Omaha, NE; ID 'Classic Rock 105.9,' promo for Let it Bleed blood drive. NEW #913, 50KW at 1277 miles.
5:50PM - 106.9 KOPW Plattsmouth, NE; ID, Breakfast Club mention (I think that was their morning show). NEW #914, 25KW at 1287 miles.
5:51PM - 106.1 Interesting UNID (suspect KEXS Ravenwood, MO). Discussion program on farming and chemicals with two hosts. Then into a promo for a Kansas City statue, and later mentioned the Holy Spirit, God's creative worth, etc. This is likely them but it does not seem like an EWTN program...do they ever discuss farming in a Catholic nature? At first, I thought this was a news/talk or even a translator of a farm news station (ala, KFRM-550 in Salina).
5:58PM - 90.5 KXCV Maryville, MO; RDS 'KXCV' mixed with others. Relog, 100KW at 1352 miles.
6:01PM - 91.7 KVLD Norfolk, NE; K-LOVE TOH ID with slam dunk calls, swapping with at least two others. NEW #915, 1.7KW at 1186 miles.
6:06PM - 98.9 KQRC Leavenworth, KS; RDS 'THE ROCK' and of course, active rock music. Nice to hear more K.C. after getting KCUR last week! NEW #916, 98.5KW at 1417 miles.
6:11PM - 103.9 KNLV-FM Ord, NE; ID 'KING FM.' Relog, 97KW at 1109 miles.
6:14PM - 93.3 KFFF-FM Bennington, NE; over nuisance pest KRKL/Walla Walla with classic country, ID '93-3 The Wolf.' NEW #917, 8.5KW at 1274 miles.
6:20PM - 93.5 KKOT Columbus, NE: very strong with full RDS and Radiotext, ID '93.5 the Hawk', classic rock music. Relog, 100KW at 1186 miles.
6:22PM - 90.3 KMNE Bassett, NE; classical music and RDS "Nebraska Public Media." Over KNWY! NEW #918, 94.6KW at 1079 miles.

6:35PM - 98.1 KMBZ Kansas City, MO; RDS 'KMBZ.' Relog (not heard since 6/23/14), 98.5KW at 1417 miles.

6:40PM - 95.5 KNDY-FM Marysville, KS; ad for the Nemaha County Fair in Seneca, KS. Relog, 25KW at 1282 miles (not heard since 7/7/20)
6:48PM - UNID 92.9 with Rise Up with John Ritter promo (over KDBL!) I can't count this, no ID, but very likely KMXN Osage City, KS. This is a station that I've been wanting to pick up since I moved to Ellensburg. It's 92.9 the Bull, trying to defeat 92.9 the Bull in Yakima. KHUD Tucson is ALSO the Bull as is CKBL in Saskatoon. But not enough for a full confirmation I'm afraid.
6:50PM - 91.5 KANU Lawrence, KS; WIPED OUT LOCAL!!! Classical music and full RDS 'KPR - MYKPR.ORG'. NEW #921, 100KW at 1384 miles.
6:51PM - 96.3 KACZ Riley, KS; RDS 'Z96-3'. Relog, 12.5KW at 1313 miles.
6:52PM - 96.3 KZDY Cawker City, KS; ID 'Z96-3 The Lake' (see how confusing this would be to a DXer)? NEW #922, 13KW at 1226 miles.
6:55PM - 93.9 KSWN McCook, NE; weather forecast for McCook. Relog, 50KW at 1089 miles.
7:00PM - 91.1 KCFN Wichita, KS; 'This is American Family Radio, a listener-supported ministry of the American Family Association' right over the top of KYPL Yakima! Based on skip path, KCFN is the station I heard. NEW #923, 100KW at 1325 miles.
7:05PM - 96.1 KICX McCook, NE; ID '96.1 KICX FM' into Adult Contemporary music. Relog, 50KW at 1089 miles.
7:11PM - 93.1 KHMY Pratt, KS; ID 'My 93.1' and RDS...this station stayed in for over an hour and a half with little co-channel interference! Relog, 100KW at 1287 miles.
7:12PM - 93.5 KKDT Burdett, KS; ID 'My Country 93-5'. Relog, 95KW at 1199 miles.
7:16PM - 96.3 KZCH Derby, KS; promo for a COVID vaccination event for teens at the old Wichita library. Relog, 50KW at 1339 miles.
7:17PM - 98.7 KNSS-FM Clearwater, KS; with Ben Shapiro show. Relog, 50KW at 1341 miles.
7:18PM - 96.7 KSOB-FM Larned, KS; someone needs to check in on this station. Classic country songs skipping and stopping mid-song, unlistenable to this DXer and unlistenable to an ordinary farmer in Great Bend! Did catch a 'KMMM/KSOB' ID at least. Relog, 3KW at 1243 miles.
7:20PM - *DX_SPHERE (Kyle) IN MOSES LAKE RECEIVES DOUBLE HOP FROM WRKF-89.3 BATON ROUGE LA! Nothing here.*
7:22PM - 95.1 KCGY Laramie, WY; a brief path change with a promo for the Cheyenne Frontier Days. Relog, 100KW at 842 miles.
7:29PM - 95.5 KAHE Dodge City, KS; ID 'Superhits.' Relog (many times), 100KW at 1212 miles.
More to come

7:30PM - 89.7 KEPC Colorado Springs, CO; mention of Colorado Springs in passing. Relog, 10KW at 976 miles.
7:30PM - 90.9 KHCT Great Bend, KS; huge signal with the Nightcrossings new-age music program, Radio Kansas funding mentions, WX forecasts. Relog, 50KW at 1232 miles.
7:36PM - 89.3 UNID with Family Life Today, discussing cool things to do with kids to prevent constant screen time. This is very likely one of two KJIL translators (205 and 75W) in western/central KS. I can't count this, but this station was in for at least 5 minutes at relatively 'weak sounding' signals. Like what a translator would sound like at 20 miles distance.
7:41PM - 98.1 KSKZ Copeland, KS; Z-98 ID. Relog, 100KW at 1200 miles.
7:46PM - 103.9 KHYM Copeland, KS; ID for 'Praise & Encouragement KHYM', also RDS. Relog, 100KW at 1208 miles.
7:48PM - 105.5 KJAC Timnath, CO; weak with mention of The Colorado Sound. Relog, 50KW at 874 miles.
7:48PM - 105.9 KSSA Ingalls, KS; 'La Ke Buena' ID. Relog, 100KW at 1200 miles.
7:49PM - 104.5 KZZW Mooreland, OK; RDS 'KZZW.' Even worse operation than KSOB. Lots of dead air, songs popping up for about 5 seconds at a time and skipping, stopping frequently. Can SOMEONE in the Woodward area please knock on their door and give them a wake-up call? Relog, 60.3KW at 1310 miles.
7:51PM - 100.9 KGBL Lakin, KS; "Breaking News: A Bull rammed through the cherry orchards again!" And indeed it did destroy KARY-FM, country music and slam dunk ID '100.9 & 94.7.' Relog, 100KW at 1172 miles.
7:53PM - 99.9 KWKR Leoti, KS; ID 'KWKR Rocks.' NEW #924, 97KW at 1143 miles.
7:56PM - 96.1 KXXY Oklahoma City, OK; with Josh Gracin 'Nothing to Lose' and ID '96-1 KXY.' Not heard since 6/23/15! Relog, 94.9KW at 1423 miles.
8:00PM - 90.1 KSJR Collegeville, MN (!!) with mention of YourClassical.org, MPR's Classical website. I doubt KUCO would air that, so I am counting it as Minnesota, which is way off the path of the other stations - crazy conditions! Relog, 100KW at 1240 miles.
8:02PM - 94.1 KTHM Waynoka, OK; RDS 'HOUSE FM.' NEW #925, 9.8KW at 1320 miles.
8:05PM - 98.9 KYIS Oklahoma City, OK; RDS '98.9 KISS-FM.' Relog, 100KW at 1425 miles.
8:07PM - 107.7 KRXO Oklahoma City, OK; partial RDS 'Franchise', but quite garbled. Sports play-by-play, so obviously them. Relog, 100KW at 1425 miles.
8:15PM - 92.5 KOMA-FM Oklahoma City, OK; ad for the Salt Creek Casino near Chickasaw, OK. Relog, 94KW at 1425 miles.
8:24PM - 97.5 KSRX Sterling, CO; RDS 'BOB-FM' and Bob Seger's 'Hollywood Nights.' Relog, 38KW at 976 miles.
8:25PM - 99.7 KHLT Belle Plaine, KS; ID 'La Raza' over KHHK/Yakima. NEW #926, 50KW at 1349 miles.
8:32PM - 105.1 UNID Sports station, suspect KOSP Perry OK (only 6000 watts), but can't fully confirm this one.
8:37PM - 101.9 KKQY Hill City, KS; Hays-area ads. Relog, 97KW at 1193 miles.
8:40PM - 92.7 KZUH Minneapolis, KS; ID '92-7 Zoo.' Relog, 50KW at 1275 miles.
8:43PM - 94.7 KSKU Sterling, KS; ID and local ads, Rick Dees countdown. Relog, 50KW at 1275 miles.
8:45PM - 95.1 KICT Wichita, KS; ID 'T-95.' Relog, 100KW at 1327 miles.
8:50PM - 96.5 KRAV Tulsa, OK; playlist match to 'Good Feeling' by Flo Rida. Relog, 100KW at 1457 miles.
8:52PM - 88.7 KLNE-FM Lexington, NE; 'Nebraska Public Media' RDS. Relog, 60KW at 1143 miles.
8:57PM - 90.9 KLRC Tahlequah, OK; with ID over KHCT Great Bend. 2nd farthest station EVER heard on FM (KABW-95.1 Baird TX from 5/21/21 drops to third!) NEW #927, 100KW at 1,519 miles!!! Lucky ID too...not quite at TOH. This station serves Fayetteville, AR, so I was nearly touching Arkansas at the end of the opening!

Of course, I have no idea when I will get to audio or RDS pictures. I now have over 10 hours of audio (going back to 7/14) to complete, compile, and get UNIDs from. This puts me down to 72 FMs needed to hit the big 1,000. Can I do it before the Perseids meteor showers during the second week of August? That's for next time...
