If this is true, this is a dumb move by Saga... the HOT AC format would be better suited for 104.3/103.5 combo than 107.9

or better yet, put bighits on 104.3 and simlucast the Mix with 103.5... that would help the gaps that 107.9 looses to the south.

That sounds like something from a mass emailing or a website. I too, would appreciate hearing where you saw it.

Wonder why they didn't just move Mix to 104.3? I've lost track...is 104.3 one of the signals due for an upgrade? Or maybe Saga got wind that 93.3 was planning to go Classic Hits? (OK, that last thought is from the fantasy that CC/Columbus would act normally and seize a logical opportunity for something other than TVN-NCI-COL, so scratch it.)

In any event, glad to see the format returning, but wish it were on a better signal. Damn, I wish Saga had been able to get some decent second and third signals here like they have in their other top 40 markets. I'm no Sunny fan, but overall, they are better operators than CC, e.g. whupping their ass in Milwaukee, where they're burying the original Brew. But aside from Sunny the limited number of big sticks here are all with CC, Dispatch and Nabco. Which explains so much about the sorry state of Columbus radio in a nutshell.

In any event, thanks for having some moxy and intelligence, Saga.

Maybe they already have that in mind. Based on what Bill Harmonic wrote awhile back Saga's not a big fan of Smooth Jazz. And Smooth Jazz's have been dropping like flies recently, especially since PPM is unkind to them. (Some SJ's are still doing well, e.g. in San Diego...but they don't have PPM there yet, I believe).

Yes, SAGA has applied to move 104.3 from Richwood to West Jefferson with a tower located at 270/route 62/3 near Grove City.

This has not been approved but I suspect the way the FCC works it will happen at some point (considreing WNKO's app got approved to move to new albany)..

I know the economy is tough right now but SAGA would be really smart to try and grab 101.7 or 102.5...and add to their stable.

Just so I get this straight, lovejamminoldies...every station you've ever posted about should switch to Rhythmic something-or-other.

Just checking.

103.5/104.3 should go rhythmic, and 93.3 should go rhythmic. By the way i think 97.1 should go rhythmic. also i think it would be smart for 92.3,94.7,96.3 and 97.9, but not 99.7 to go rhythmic RHYTHMIC RHYTHMIIIIIIIIC ALL THE WAYYYYYYYY!!! ps. 99.7 should go urban

Well, I'm glad you pay attention. First of all, I am 16. I like Rhythmic music. And that is not the only format I listen to. As a matter of fact, here are some facts you should know.

- I listen to Hot AC
- I program a MAINSTREAM CHR internet radio station.
- When B flipped to Mix 107-9, I was very active on the boards posting my opinions and ideas.
- Considering my name is "lovejamminoldies" and RHY/AC is similar to Jammin' Oldies, I obviously would love MOViN/Rhythmic AC.

And why not flip 103.5 to RHYTHMIC AC. It's ORIGINAL. IT'S UNIQUE. No, the ratings aren't great. But what next? Stick ANOTHER country on there? There's no point. An active rock would work since Columbus has lost that due to to The Rock entering.

I also appreciate bwilliam for defending me on the point that Columbus needs another rhythmic. Power 107-5 is a horrible example of a Hip-Hop station and is extremely watered down esp due to the market size.

16? I would have guessed you were at minimum college-aged based on your familiarity with various older-targeted formats, as well as the level of composition and analysis (regardless of any rhythmic bias).

Re rhythmic AC, I don't see much overlap with Jammin Oldies, which was a 70's-based format with some 60's.

We will see!

Well, that's interesting! Well, at least we know Big Hits 104.3 is a GO. And true Rhythmic AC is nothing like Jammin' Oldies... BUT... if you're a older female that listens to the likes of Kool & The Gang, Bobby Brown, Donna Summer (a Jammin' Oldies listener), and your Jammin' Oldies flips to Rhythmic AC... a majority of the listeners would stay. Especially thinking they will "Feel Good" :)

Just trying to inject some reality into this thread. There's room in Cbus for maybe two formats playing rhythmic music, and one full blown hip hop station. I'll take your word that Power 107.5 is a marginal one. It never impressed me much when I lived in the city. But the market won't bear more. Operators still have to make money and there just ain't enough there for a head-to-head p*ssing match (pun not intended). I suggest you might be better served putting some energy into trying to educate the Radio One folks as to your wants and needs. Just maybe they will try to listen to you (the audience).

Of course, this is corporate radio. They may not have enough manpower to read their mail.

I'm laughing so hard, I almost peed myself. Listeners having something to say about how a station is programmed. Now, THAT'S funny!!!

I worked at a station that had one of those "listener advisory boards". If you weren't in the target demo, your email was ignored. The fact that most of the emails came from outside the station's perceived demo seemed to be lost on programmers. But, I digress.

Educate Radio One? It's not possible. Let's look at what they did in August, 2001 to their cluster of stations in Dayton. You have a heritage CHR/Pop doing a 5 share (Z-93). So what do you do? Put your money behind the heritage CHR/Pop and broaden the playlist, and try to increase the ratings, or simply blow up your Classic Rock that's on your sister station(102.9 WING-FM), piss off a bunch of Classic Rock listeners and put on a similar format(CHR/Rhythmic/Hot 102.9)and run your heritage CHR into the ground, split the CHR audience, and do so much damage to it that the next owners (Mainline) end up having to flip it so it will get respectable ratings again? And do all of this to run an independent owner into bankruptcy(Ronita Saunders and WROU 92.1) so you can swoop in and pick up the scraps along with the signal? Just because Radio One wants to "own" the Urban format/audience? Yeah, i'd say Radio One really "cares" about their audience. No wonder that company has been in so much turmoil the last couple of years. ::)
