BIG "J" PASSES

Sorry to report that Jim "Big J" McGinnis (Big J Productions/Rock Factory) has passed away. Big J never did fully recover from his near-fatal coronary back several months ago. Services pending...

From Jim's widow Pam:

Services will be Thursday July 12 at Lakelawn Funeral Home at 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans. Visitation 12 noon - 3 pm. Mass at 3pm. It would be great if you could attend and share some of your personal memories of Big J. The annnouncement should be in the paper tomorrow.

Know his health's been bad...but still hard to believe he's gone. Big Jim McGinnis was--in all ways--larger than life. First knew him back in the beginning Warehouse days. Then had the fun of working with him during a lot of the earliest Zebra bookings, when they seemed to play every CYO within a 50-mile radius of NOLa, then have the occasional Ole Man Rivers blowout. Then, when I made the K94/Lafayette journey in 1981, did a bunch of shows with him and them at Slick's and other Acadiana rockporiums.
R.I.P, Big Guy -- you are missed.
Soxless.

Service was beautiful. Big J memorabilia and photos galore. Hollywood had a class send off commercial for the big guy that was played. Randy, Guy & Felix along with Stevie Blaze and so many other musicians and friends were present...very moving tributes by Randy and Felix from Zebra. Father Rick from Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Kenner was awesome. Big J went out with a Zebra t-shirt on, and a cellphone in his hand! Miss ya big guy...and then news this morning one of my good friends, Andy Breaux's (of the Slidell band Redline) daughter Jamie has passed away at the young age of 25. Enough! Heartfelt condolences to Andy and his family...kids aren't supposed to go before parents.
