Big Jay Sorensen on WCBS-FM Radio Greats This Sunjay!!!!

I am honored to announce that I will be doing 7-10pm THIS coming Sunday on the nation's premier classic hits station, the legendary WCBS-FM!

I have been invited to play songs that I played on the WNNNBC Time Machine, circa '87-88, where I faithfully recreated the "sound" of 60's stations, headed by Musicradio 77 WABC and other greats of that genre like WMCA (yeah yeah), WFIL, WIBG, KFRC, KLIF, WLS, WCFL, KHJ, WFUN, WQAM, WMEX, WKBW, WLEE, KQV, etc...(Am I allowed to mention my years at Sirius? Nah...)

I can not recreate what I did on WNBC at WCBS FM, however the spirit of what I was doing will be present. I'm trying to locate some of MY personal jingles...as my copies are locked in a storage facility in Dallas, and I'm in NJ...

Oh..and I'll chat a little about my time at WNBC, while playing TONS of the music WE love.

Who knows. Perhaps The Record Pig will show up to do some music trivia just like I did on the great 66 and other stations through my career.

Why not call and say HIYA this SUNJAY or just listen to wind-down your Father's Day weekend.

I am looking forward to this, and I hope you'll join me!
7-10pm exclusively on CBS-FM 101.1 in NY, NY!!

BE BIG!!!
Your Biggest Jay

Big Jay still has the enthusiasm for radio. His appearance on The Radio Racket last month was absolutely entertaining.

I'll be tuning in this Sunday!

I was thinking about WNNNNBC and the time machine as the summer of '88 is 20 years ago..20 years in October WNBC went off, I managed to find my old "time machine" tapes and have been listening to them...they still sound great! 247-8666 eastern americas request and dedication lines are open...

Yay, Big! I already knew about this, but I'm still glad to see it in print on the Interwebs (that means it's true, right?)

We'll be listening from the Radio Bunker!

"RADIO TRUTH". Ahh yes. Well, if I ever need to know the Real Deal, the 4-1-1, the Emmis... I'm coming over to your Mom's basement and asking you! :p

I once (actually several times) jocked and programmed for a consultant who used to say that he only WANTED jocks with "big egos". As in, larger than life. Because anyone else just didn't have the right stuff, and couldn't "CAUSE TALK", in his words. Big Jay does plenty of that... which is why "Radio Truth" will not be on 101.1 on Sunday!

Hey! While we're at it, let's all disdain entire radio stations, who "self-promote"! That's right... hide your light under a barrel and if you're good enough, you're smart enough and doggone it, people like you... they will come. You can wait until they show up. This whole business of "promotion" is overrated, anyway!

All right, enough of my poignant, cutting-edge snark... I'm gonna be diggin' me some Record Pig on Sunday!

(So on Sunday, you chilluns, chillin' in Mom's basement... LISTEN AND LEARN!)

Can you do a little more stroking of your ego and self promotion?

Sorenson is another of a long list of people who should be working. That list is not as big as the list of those who shouldn't be working but are.

Wait a minute, wait a minute, you guys - whassup with all this? I mean, you got "Big Jay", a guy who WHO HASN'T BEEN ON THE AIR IN LIKE A LONG TIME and Brian Thomas (bravo, Brian!! :)) gives him a Sunday Night Radio Greats slot THIS SUNDAY NIGHT, and a LOT of youze are kvetching like a bunch of school kids? Cmon, I for one am GLAD that Big Jay's doin it this Sunday!!

The interesting question is this. Have either "Classic Puker" or "Big
Jay" had a fulltime radio gig within the last two years? last five years? last ten years?

Big Jay has, but I can name a big list of those who aren't working who should be, including many let go from WLTW. Just because you aren't working doesn't mean you're not good.

Well, CP is on the air in NY. Where are you Ms. "Truth"?

With all of these out of work djs, including the ones listed above, CBS-FM opts to have Jeff Mazzei talking into a computer as the all night show.

Yes. And how aware of you of their P & L situation?
(Keep in mind that CBS is paying for both the old & new airstaffs of 92.3)

Let's see...during the last 10 years I've been at WJRZ, WCTC, SIRIUS '60s Vibrations, KLIF-Dallas, WWDB-FM Philly, WPHT-AM Philly and some little fm station called NJ 101.5 that cumes more than some NY or Philly stations. I'd say that's working. And almost each move was a step UP...and/or for personal reasons, to return to a certain area due to family issues.
I will not participate in this thread after this. It's beyond absurd.
Thanks for those who get it. And REALLLLY thank you to you guys who DON'T. It just enrages you more that some people actually LIKE what I do. I hope you're REALLLLLLY mad now. Look in the mirror...face red yet... Let mommy kiss your head and you'll be allllll better.
But I don't know about you, but I always live by these words. BE BIG.
Jay

OK Jay - Enough. You've posted your resume and mention of being on CBS-FM on every board between N.Y. and Myrtle Beach, S.C. We all get it .

In regard to the CBS P & L situation.....Does one more or less dj making union scale in New York at CBS-FM really make a difference. It is a sad day when the number one market is automated in any day part. If the CBS P & L situation is so bad, why not automate all the day parts and save a few more pennies for a reasonably big corporation. Or.....why not use live part timers on the all night show so they could be paid less and get no benefits. I never thought that I would see the day that a New York station would have 4 full time five hour shifts and automation the rest of the time.
