Big Joe gone at 570am!

Looks like Joe Mc Donnell is about to be dumped by 570 KLAC and replaced by Tony Bruno's Content Factory Show.
Mc Donnell has made the rounds in LA sports radio and his friction with many staffers may have made this move easy to make for Clear Channel Suits.

Well with the Angels season ending in about a month (we hope it goes that long) there's always AM 830 KLAA to give Joe a gig, even with the Ducks games on. Actually, I would hope they'd team Joe up again with Doug Krikorian (if he's still got the radio bug) and do a PM drive shift. [crossing my fingers]

Agree with this, but it won't happen as Dougie is in his 70's and doing a weekly radio show and writing a daily column is a little too much for old Dougie.......They did make a great duo on the air.....830 am just needs to boost their signal......Can't even get it in the Valley.....

I used to listen to Big Joe a lot, going back to about the mid-90s with him and Krikorian. They were one of the best duos in sports radio that I've ever heard. I don't listen to as much sports radio as before, except during the day and usually only at work. With that, I didn't listen much to his current evening show on KLAC. Joe might go on and do general talk somewhere else in the market, or even come crawling back to KSPN. But yeah, KLAA wouldn't be a bad choice either...although he's had friction before with one of its current hosts, Dave Smith. I don't remember all the details, but it does back to the XTRA Sports 1150 days, and McDonnell accused Smith for throwing Smith's broadcast partner under the bus for so on-air stuff.

I heard recently heard the audio clip with Big Joe and Petros Papadakis getting into on the air earlier this year. They almost came to blows, and I think it was the final straw for KLAC.

I didn't know about the friction with Dave Smith but Joe's ruffled a lot of feathers over the years. To Pronkie, I think Doug is around 65 not that ancient yet.

I actually find Joe LESS entertaining now than before. He used to be able to talk a good sports game in a coherent, straight-forward fashion that shows he put some thought into it. He was very good in the afternoons with Krikorian on 710 KMPC in the early 90s.

At KLAC though, he always had a menagerie of cohosts, hangers-ons - whatever they were - who would always distract the conversation. At some point it became less of a talk show and more of an ongoing argument on the air, often times not even about sports. It became unlistenable. He also let his politics creep on the air as well. Note to Joe - if we cared about your politics, we wouldn't be tuning into sports talk radio.

It looks like more people are into talking about Big Joe leaving than Tony Bruno joining!!

Big Joe's show didn't matter on KLAC because of the same fact that Bruno's show will have, that from November until June the show will be pre-emtped by Lakers Pre Game, Lakers game broadcast, Lakers Post Game and then more Lakers Post-Post game...and then somtimes they even would replay the lakers game after that.

Joe was once a big deal in LA, and then ended up doing nights and is gone now. Remember when Tony Bruno was doing mornings in LA? Now, he is doing nights. The only time people will hear him is when he is filling in for his big brother, Dan Patrick.
