BIG MATTRESS SONG OF THE WEEK/BCN CLASSICS

There were so many great songs that it seemed only WBCN played. Many of these songs on "The Rock of Boston" don't fit the definition of "Classic Rock."
Outside of the local bands that got played on BCN over its history, what tunes did BCN make popular? Adam 12 played "Charlie Don't Surf" by The Clash and said he just associated this tune with BCN history.

At first the BMSOTW was supposed to be a way to give unknown artists a break, but it didn't take long before it turned corporate and established acts were given the honor. At that point it became just another song to me. I remember calling BCN sometime in the late 70's/early 80's when the switch happened and telling Charles that he had sold out.

What was the name of that band that had the song "Big" it went something like "She makes me big... big big big" I think they were the Stools or Fools or something. I remember hearing them on the CLRH on WZLX.

The Fools were one of the acts that played the WBCN benefit concert in 1979. (Sass, The Stompers, J. Geils (unannounced), James Montgomery Band)

Ha! I remember doing the "worm" at a number of Fools shows at the Blue Wall at ZooMass. Tuborg Gold...barf

Tuborg was then 40-cents, per draft, in the Blue Wall,
cover charges for great local bands were under $2.
Also saw an unknown band there called the Cars - before their
first album came out. Ah, those were the days...

Thanks Gadon, that's what I thought it was. Are they still around?

Yes, The Fools still play clubs around New England.

The bass player played in Beatlejuice through out it's run.

Joe Holiday is still playing with Beatlejuice www.muzzdrums.com , he is a founding member, He also plays in Velvet Elvis http://www.velvetelvisband.com/

Rich Barlett who plays with the Fools, now plays with Beatlejuice too playing guitar with Dave Mitchell. Rich was the guitar roadie/tuner/God who kept Dave & Brads multiple guitars in tune and ready.
