It seems like "Big News" never turns out to be either big or news.

So which one flips?

> Well, the State College Arbitron advances are due Tuesday...

And, Forever--er, Galli--will trash either WOWY or Lite, depending on which does worst. And flip to what, Jack/Sam/Mike/Fred? Unintentionally attacking their own WBUS. Oh, let's not forget Quinn & Rose for mornings on RSC. Just guessing...

If my name is going to pop up anywhere as a radio format 'handle', then SC is the place.

Joe "The 2nd Most Popular Joe in PA" Thomas

I do think you could do a better job than that "other" Joe with the football team :)

So if Forever and Galli are truly one and the same, and Galli flips a format that competes against WBUS, aren't all the eggs in one basket anyway? And if that's true, why is that big news or even news at all?

Re: So which one flips?

I would be VERY surprised of Galli OR Forever launches Jack in State College. Forever tried Jack before in Altoona with Majic 104.9 and it died a horrible death. Jack actually trended downward in many markets this past book anyway. Its just too new of a format and it not 100% proven to work long term for anyone in this market to hop on that bandwagon yet. Besides that, I am sure that Galli and Forever have something in writing stipulating what can go on those frequencies or 107.9 sure would not be doing the K-Love thing. Do you really think that Forever will allow any more competition with itself??? I doubt that.

Besides, both WOWY and Lite stand to do well (although I suspect Lite's morning will TANK thanks for the morning show). Would have fared much better with music in the morning, but we shall see.

I think both will do ok and both will remain intact, but that is totally speculation and not based on ANY fact whatsoever.

As for ratings predictions. My lips are sealed. Could be anyone's game...but as always 3-WZ and Froggy will most likely come out on top!

You're probably going to be very surprised then. If Lite goes byebye right now, it would be Forever's doing since they still own it, unless they do an LMA to Galli in the next day or two. I believe Lite is a goner and it will be a Jack, Bob, Sam, Charlie, or my personal favorite, Joe. No announcers, no news, no pesky benefit packages because there is no staff. That will give Galli three FM stations, two with no staff. The overhead is so low you'll bump your head on it.

Well I am not saying its impossible...as a certain company in this town has already made quite a few moves over the years that had me wondering...but I wonder if they remember Jack tanked in Altoona? I'd be surprised to see it...but not shocked I suppose. Ahhhh...Jockless radio with no news...no nothing! I'll take an IPOD please...YUCK!

At any rate, I suppose it makes sense under the setup they have to run those stations with as little staff as possible since they surely don't intend to actually make money off them. They are merely castaways. A shame...but a reality I suppose. Too bad, cause Lite is a half decent station that was long overdue for this area in my opinion, as was WOWY even though its not my cup of tea. Wonder if they'd consider doing the oldies thing on WOWY via one of the satellite radio networks and then they'd need no staff at all???

Forever did Classic Hits in Altoona with Majic and it was somewhat of a Jack format, but the library was very small. Compared to a Variety Hits format, I would have to say that the Majic library was tiny. Majic also had jocks, news, weather, and corny names.

I would be curious to see what a Jack would do in one of the area markets. I think the novelty would wear off quickly.

The New 99.5?

Almost forgot Forever's Mount Union move-in. That should arrive any day, shouldn't it? And you know, Centre Hall has waited 200 years for its first FM station...

Could it be we see Jack at 94.5 and a new Lite goes on at 99.5 which could most likely serve State College AND maybe Altoona? Not sure if the signal would go that far or not...not Altoona sure needs an AC
