Big news regarding Tom Joyner on Kiss 104.1

I don't think this will hurt Kiss. Joyner, while a legend, was getting old for the target demo. Art Terrell is well known and popular, and morning drive is more appropriate for the type of show that he and Wood do.

The one thing I seemed to have missed, however, was the removal of Michael Baisden from afternoon drive.

Do you think any of the smaller players in Atlanta will pick up Joyner for his remaining 2 years? It might help a station like Streetz, The Beat, Boom or Old School (If it's back on yet)? Or maybe grab it for one of the urban HD-2/3 channels?

While I understand the Joyner side of this and think being live with the crew that used to do afternoons will probably be a positive... I don't understand the Baisden drop. Also, their 6+ trend isn't a huge drop to make big changes. Anyone have any info of how they compare in dayparts or 18-54 ranges with their competitors?

DIdn't I hear that he is planning on retiring in the next couple of years, so maybe they are going to begin life without him a couple of years earlier.

Joyner is retiring, which is why I understand that one. Baisden is NOT, so I'm wondering what all is at play here.

I can see Baisden being added to Old School 87.7 and Porscha Foxx being moved to middays. Who will get middays at Kiss? Renee Miller? Carol Blackman?

Another change I notice was that Kiss has been speeding up the tempo in their playlist. REALLY? I'd rather they pitch up their songs instead.

As for Joyner, I wonder if Majic would be willing to cut Steve Harvey loose for Tom. But R1 doesn't seem as focused on committing to Tom as in years past, though they brought him back to Dallas OTA.

It's possible Cox wanted to get rid of Baisden and, since they decided to drop Joyner, they'd make all the changes at once. Kind of a 'rip off the band-aid' thing. Any "damage" that would be done to the station with any changes would happen all at once

In the just released November PPM ratings, Majic beat Kiss in 25-54 by 83% in morning drive, 47% in middays, 32% in afternoon drive and 26% from 7PM-midnight.

It seems obvious "The New Kiss 104.1" is about making the demos younger.

Thank you for that. The whole reason I posted was to get some insight into the demo's. Where are WALR's #'s? 54+? If they are shooting younger, they must skew really old.
