Big Shoe and Sharpe!

According to the radio friend's reunion we've got going on over at Facebook, Big Shoe Stu Evans and Jim Sharpe will team up for the Memorial Day 4-7pm shift, at KTAR. Sounds like great listening tomorrow, for those driving back down the big hill, or back into town.

Have fun guys, we'll be listening!

Bonneville runs a classy operation and it shows when they bring back the dearly departed from lesser radio outfits (seeBS, Cheap Channel).

I can't wait to hear Big Shoe Stu and Jim Burgundy on the same show!!!

Hey, Jim, if it rains tomorrow, can we get up-to-the-minute updates with locations and how much it is raining? :D I need to know if I should put an umbrella in my drink or not. ;D

Jim Sharpe will never leave the building!

Nurse Jeff and I hope Big Shoe and Mr Burgandy don't do too well in PMD as the Master Blogger might reconsider the radio futures of Dumber and Dumbest.

Listening now, sounds good!

Much better than tweedle dumb and tweedle flat out stupid.

I am extremely glad that someone opened up a topic about these people because I happened to tune in at that time and I was very pleased with the entertainment that was provided! I was far away from access to my personal computer, limited on time, and had to make a personal note to be sure to mention it. It was a very good show to me. Very well done, and I actually ended up keeping it on KTAR all evening throughout the following day since that time!

I was also in an apartment with no t.v, no internet - nothing except my radio and Zune (Slept at my sister's place because home was too noisy...etc) and their show kept me from getting bored. By the way, I have now completely converted over to KTAR from KFYI, although I still tune in to Barry Young from time to time and will listen to Coast to Coast depending on what topics they choose to discuss that day.

Hopefully Big Shoe and Sharpe will find a home somewhere... hopefully on KTAR. If I had seen this post before listening to the show, I probably would've thought nothing of it. Now I know why they are known.

KDM 7000 is either a personal friend, high as a kite, or most likely Big Shoe Stu or Jim Sharpe stroking themselves. They were lacking content, nervous and very awkward which actually makes them the perfect replacement for Dumb and Dumber. KTAR needs to either bring back Femino, bring in Pratt or look outside of this pathetic market for some real talent. If KFYI ever goes FM, KTAR will be DEAD again. KTAR's frequency is much stronger than their air staff. PPM is made for FM. Can you say 95.5 KFYI ?

Femino for Dumber & Dumbest? No way. At least with D&D, you get two goofballs in PMD while KFWhyEye has only one. Moving 5~Fifty to 95~Five doesn't mean it's a slam dunk for KFWhyEye. KT'R is not as vulnerable to the Toaster Talk image as it was several years ago. AMD News can't be beat and there's no one KT'R can put up against El Rushbo and win. Aunt Carlos is at least 100 times better than Pat McBland. In early afternoons, Glenn Beck is on fire across the nation. His move to FOX aligns him more with conservative listeners, so advantage KT'R. Crummey is more entertaining and less abrasive than Savage. And who really cares about the late night battle between Bud Dickman and Coast To Coast UFO's?

Nurse Jeff and I have advised mgmt to put KFWhyEye on FM before KT'R moved to 92~Three. With PPM a reality in Phoenix, now is the right time to make the move to 95~Five and send the UnCola guy packing.

Once again, that is simply because PPM favors the FM frequency. KFYI continually battered KTAR before PPM.

Or most likely, just another flaw in methodology. PPM is no more accurate than diaries, unless of course, your station performs better. Then, of course, your claim is that PPM is incredibly accurate. Ratings are ratings. Always flawed. The sell is in the spin.

insidethenumbers: You are right and you are wrong.

I have no idea who KDM is, so they could be a close friend - but if so they haven't revealed themselves to me. Their comments were generous in my opinion - but appreciated. They certainly aren't me - I have never hidden who I am on here and don't feel the need to stroke myself. I earn a good living outside of radio and don't feel the need to jump back in.

Who might you be, insidethenumbers?

I agree we did sound awkward at times. Stu and I even chatted about that after the show. It's never easy to throw two people together and expect it to sound great out of the gate - even with the combined 50 years+ experience that Stu and I hold. We've been friends for years, but have never been on the air together.

It was never meant as anything more than a fun way to spend a holiday afternoon and to get Stu on the air after a long break.

Where you are really wrong is in suggesting that PPM and diaries provide the same accuracy. If you have spent anytime studying it as I have (I do some media buying) and a good chunk of the industry has, you will see it is much more accurate when it comes to actual listening. Whether it is a true reflection of active vs. passive listening, is another question.

Just my 2 cents.

I will now crawl back under my rock.

Jim

Isn't insidethe numbers the poster who was attacking people on the Pratt thread? Doctor, Crummey is real hit and miss on KTAR FM, not as consistent as he was on KFYI. He'll have a great show and then the next two might be real dumb clinkers. Sometimes it's more entertaining to turn to Savage (he at least tells good stories or he'll foam at the mouth over news events to the point where it's funny). Mark Levine during the night is a great alternative to Coast and KTAR.

Just to clarify things, as usual, like I must do everywhere I go, I am most likely not going to be personal friends with anyone I speak about in this section of the board. I will always tell it like it is and present the facts or my opinions (depending on topic) as I see them. A good review doesn't necessarily mean I know and like the people I'm talking about, and a bad review doesn't mean that I dislike or know the people I'm talking about. Everything I say (when it comes specifically to my reviews on certain things in radio in radio-info boards) will always be based purely on how I feel about the thing I'm giving the review about.

As Big Shoe and Sharpe have already stated, I do not know Big Shoe or Sharpe and I'm also not personal friends with either Big Shoe or Sharpe, and I should probably also mention that it's the same with KZON employees, George Noory, Frankie V from Kiss FM (who I've not discussed yet), Barry Young, and most likely every other person/station I've talked (or will eventually talk) good or even not so good about.

Also, this thing where if I say something, then it must mean this, all because someone disagrees with it, this type of thing may work with the way politicians and most people operate today, but it will not work with me. I will always tell it like it is, good or bad, and whether or not I know you, like you, dislike you, am related to you...etc. It will not sway my opinion, and especially more so during the times when I base my opinions on facts. Therefore, whenever I make a statement, in any forum/blog..etc, it will mean only exactly as it says (unless of course I'm making a joke or using sarcasm). If I say I like or dislike a show, then it means I either like or dislike the show, end of story.

The way Shoe and Sharpe tag teamed, transitioned into different topics, and made jokes from time to time, I thought it was entertaining and well done, but that's just my view of it.

As far as the Crummey being a real hit and miss on KTAR FM statement, I can clearly see why someone would say this. I myself was even thinking earlier today about how Crummey is "not as consistent", or not quite the same as he was on KFYI. I was also thinking that the fact that both stations have different ways in which they wish to have topics and opinions presented also plays a role in why Crummey is not as consistent to some degree. KTAR is mostly open with variety topics and has more of a laid back feel, while KFYI seemingly tends to focus mainly on certain issues at certain points in time, so I think this is why Crummey is less consistent on KTAR, as he has more freedom to "float around" topic-wise. Overall, I still say Crummey is good, although I do not always agree with some of his opinions on certain issues. I don't know what I think of Savage... and as far as Coast to Coast, it's good, but depending on which topics they choose to discuss at a given time. Coast to Coast is a common sense program. You use common sense and logic to figure out which shows are serious, which shows are hypothetical and thought provoking, and which shows are just purely for imagination, entertainment, and ratings. I'd prefer to weed out the fictional and "rather silly" topics, but I know everyone does not think like me, and my preferences vs. what brings the ratings are two completely different things. I guess now that I think of it, I'd say that Coast to Coast is also hit or miss.

We chalk it up to KT'R formatics and what the Master Blogger wants from his talkers. On occassion, one or two topics dominate his show..but many times he'll do three or four topics an hour. Kinda hard to wipe that Toaster Talk mentality from the building! At KFWhyEye the Evil One didn't have to plug a bogus rewards program every 1/4 hour; urge listeners to take a "no hassle" test drive to raise money for a charity; and talk incessantly about stories the KT'R news department was cold trailing (remember the little devil child in St Johns?). In spite of all the crap he has to wade through, Nurse Jeff and I still prefer Joe Crummey to Michael Sewage.

I don't think Glenn Beck is on early afternoons anywhere but in Phoenix. He needs to be moved into early or late mornings. Around here, if you pay, you listen to him live on XM165.
