BIG Spring book coming Wednesday for several ATL stations

Who's waiting anxiously? CW would say Dave and WGST. All Access Morning Show on Dave will 'celebrate' its two-year anniversary soon -- more than enough time for Caffey and whoever else to conclude if its working. For all I know, the BarnesFirfer contracts have been renewed or extended, but I'd be surprised if they have. And if they have, I bet the guaranteed portion of the salary is low enough where CBS could easily eat it if they wanted to.

Agencies and local sponsors put a lot of stock in the Spring Book and if they do another sub 2 overall and fall further in the demos, it could be the beginning of the end for the morning show, if not the format. There would be a permanent discount to the rate card.

And unlike Jimmy Baron who has maintained enough goodwill in the industry where he can try out with other local stations, I dont think the post-canning marketplace would be too friendly to Mr. Nike.
 
Anyone with any intelligence could have told you that Barney & Furfur couldn't pull a 2 share after they had been on for a month...let alone 2 years. Dave needs a new PD, and a new morning show...bring Mara back
 
Oh god, Not MOBY, YEAH BABY! Please, hes even worse now, than he was at Z-93. I swear the more a jock ages, the worse they get, cept, for good ole Gary Mc Kee, who even at his age is probably still funny as hell....

Only one problem with that scenario: There has never ever been a music intensive morning show that has ever done well in morning drive in a rock format. Not one. And don't give me "The River". We all know it's waaay too soon to see how they will eventually shake out.
 
If The River would actually expand their playlist I might actually listen to them in the morning, and other day parts. But to hear the same Boston, Zepplin, Skynyrd, and Fleetwood Mac song every time I turn to the station is just nauseating! But I gues some people like that kind of radio. As for Barnes, and Firfir, I like Firfir. She makes a good sidekick. But has no one to follow. Barnes is a different story. He has no concept about connecting to his audience. He comes across as standing above his audience. Doesn't work. I think if Barnes could get over his David Lee Roth syndrome he'd be a damn fine host. Just my opinon.

I'm still rooting for Dave. You can hear that their tweeking it. Here's hoping that CBS will stick with it, and build something instead of wussing out.

As for my nomination for the worst jock.... I nominate myself! I figure we all suck to somebody out there in the pissy confines of radio listener land.
 
I'm a big O&A fan too but I can't imagine CBS putting them on Dave. Wrong fit. Dave still needs a show that can entertain but will also reinforce their music, and O&A are all talk. Also, they aren't female friendly enough and Dave probably skews more female than even male.
 
Of course O&A don't fit DAVE - that's why after the ratings continue to fall - DAVE becomes FREE FM - and O&A will do mornings, Toucher & Rich will do afternoons from Boston and the rest we'll have to see. Dave FM needs a miracle to be saved - it's ashame but TRUE!
 
Don't you think it is premature to annoint Toucher and Rich as a syndicated afternoon show in Atlanta. They are being groomed for Atlanta mornings once Boston rejects them.

Ok, deadman, I'll rise to the bait. You're on this KillDave/I luv Free Fm/ 'WBCN rules' thing like a dog on a bone. Do you have an axe to grind with someone at Dave? Or would you also kill 99x or 96 rock for FREE FM? Dave and X arent that different. Just seems like you're a guy with one silver bullet, no offense intended. I assumed it must be personal.
 
It is because of his love for Fred Toucher. I am pretty sure this Joey Mills who appears a lot on Fred's board. The comments seems almost verbatim from the other board.

Well I feel the lack of quality entertainment for white males 18-54 is lacking in Atlanta unless you like WSB. There is no entertaining morning show in Atlanta period. I like Whip, but it's all music and very little talk. There is no axe to grind or hatred.

CBS radio finally had some insight and and bought in (IMHO) the best morning show on radio in America - Opie and Anthony. People want to laugh in the morning and be entertained while they drive to their dreadful job. Why not bring this show to Atlanta? Would you rather hear Barnes and Firfir or O&A?

WBCN is a rock radio station, not a FREE-FM station. I think FREE-FM is good idea, but DAVE makes money. CBS isn't going to filp DAVE unless they have a good reason.
They look at what WBCN is doing, this radio station sounds great. There is an (gasp) an actual mix of rock music. I am listening to Sublime - Date Rape. It was off an album Sublime in 1999. 99x and Dave has never played this song, but I have heard "What I Got" so many times I will change the station if I hear it on.
