Big Things Coming From 790

From what I've been told by a buddy of mine at CC, there is the potential for a major shifting of power from 610 to 790 if they can land a big fish they are looking at out on the talent front within the forseeable future. All I know is that CC feels like this move will have the same impact that, ironically enough for 740, Pallilo going to 610 from 740 had.

If everything goes as planned, it will be a VERY fun year watching 610 and 790 battle for market share in 2006.

790 has gotta get a local morning morning show if they're going to knock off 610.

So should we let the speculating begin on who???

So, who are they hiring?

Rich Lord - did he ever sign his new contract with KILT?

I think they are going to reel in a really big fish. My prediction is that Jim Rome will give his nationally syndicated show to come to Houston for morning drive. (pause for reflection) I forgot this wasn't April 1.

Well, they are already stole the low ratings from KILT.

I thought Rich Lord did sign a three-year contract. I bet it is one of the morning guys.

I just could not see myself leaving Infinity and KILT 610 for Clear Channel and 790. KILT has the Rockets and Texans contracts and while there is a need for improvement there, I just can't see KBME taking these guys down.

Also, I can't see anyone from KILT-AM leaving and making tremendous in roads at KBME. Sure KBME has better national recognition with ESPN and Fox Sports Radio, but KILT has a better local presence, and let's face it, if people want to hear what's going on with the Rockets, Texans, and yes even Astros (with the exception of the Astros actual broadcasts), we are turning on 610 to get the scoop. Now, if I want to hear about Terrell Owens and his contract problems, or about the latest Mike Tyson fight (or trial), I'm probably inclined to turn on KBME.

As I stated in a previous post, I could be wrong, but I just can't see Sports being a long-term solution for CC or KBME. Charlie should have stayed put (I'm sure CC probably offered a better financial deal to get him on board) and whoever else is crossing over to the dark side, ought reconsider if it's not too late. <P ID="signature">______________

You say that about Rome in jest but he was in Houston over the Memorial Weekend. It is documented that he Loves Houston. That may not be that far off.

We will see...and I hope it's not Rich Lord. That guy is appalling! I really really dislike him. He needs to get back with his other partner Kenny Hand and let them be together. I'm sorry did I say that....I just can't stand either of them and they are not that entertaining.

I agree with much of what you said, but I also remember listening to KILT when they first made the switch over and the programming and station, overall, sucked until they got some decent talent in. To me, talent makes the shows, not necessarily ALL coverage of local teams. KILT's morning team had some VERY funny stuff on this week and I found myself listening more frequently than I usually do and it had nothing to do with sports and I consider myself an above average sports fan. If 790 pulled the right talent over and switched to local programming as well, we would see a much different marketplace in my opinion.
