Big Time Skips on channels 2 to 6.

There I was, putting on that ol' TV, the one that picks up the "World Famous W61CE".. There it was, skip city on channels 2 through 6. I was attempting to get my forecast from WRGB, and low and behold, I was getting WTVJ Channel 6 in Miami.. Sounds like a nice day down there. Drop down to WPTZ in Plattsburgh, and there's WPTV from West Palm Beach..Both NBC stations on Channel 5. Channel 4 gave me WFOR-TV in Miami. And Channel 3 was I think a PBS station from Tampa Bay. I can't get WCAX on Channel 3 since there's a huge mountain in my way between Kracko's Hideout and Mount Mansfield, though I can pick up WFSB fairly regularly. I've had skip up here before, but nothing like this.. Channels 7 - 13 showed no skip... That's my story. Anybody else have seen any skips like this ?

I can't get anything on antenna here anymore. I used to get WPBT-TV (PBS) channel 2 from Miami and WESH-TV (NBC) channel 2 from Daytona Beach/Orlando all the time!

This presumes (1) Comcast Rutland does not extend to your neighborhood and (2) you do not want DirecTV or Dish Network. Rutland is part of the Burlington/Plattsburgh DMA.

I do not have Comcast Cable, and I do have DirecTV with no local channels. (I used to love having the NYC and LA TV Stations on my old receiver, that to me was worth paying for ! ) I live up high and get fantastic over the air reception from the Albany stations. The two clearest for me are WCDC 19 and WXXA 23, go figure ? I also get most of the Albany class A FM's much better than the B's.. WTMM-FM and 102.3 Kiss blast in up here, I'm perplexed by that one as well. I get WNYT 13 pretty good too, they do a great job for weather and they pay attention to this part of Vermont. Got better severe T-Storm info last week from them vs. Burlington. Turned the computer off and put on the TV for a few minutes. Too bad Comcast Rutland doesn't carry them on their line-up, they get two of the same with Channels 5 and 31.

About 20-25 years ago on a TV with a rooftop antenna (nr Boston), I got stations like Ch 2 in Indianapolis
and Ch 2 in Orlando (Ch 2 in Boston was off air in mornings)...also on a portable set with rabbit
ears & UHF loop I'd pick up some UHFs from Biddeford, ME; Greenfield, MA; Windsor VT; Long Island NY...
sometimes Ch 10 from the Maine coast would over-ride Ch 10 from Prov RI

Couple of notes: Indianapolis doesn't have a channel 2. Blame that on Terre Haute, IN (WTWO), Chicago (WBBM), Detroit (WJBK) and Dayton, OH (WDTN). As for the Maine coast, so to speak, what you actually picked up was WCBB-TV (PBS) channel 10, licensed to Augusta, ME. Their transmitter is located in Litchfield, ME.

oh OK--I thought it was from indy but I was wrong and when I said Maine coast I figured that the ME
station was somewhere on the coast (like Biddeford's Ch 26 is) but you're right, Augusta..thanks

That makes sense actually. WCDC is on Mt Greylock in Mass, and WXXA has a directional antenna with a "major lobe" aimed north.

WTMM-FM and 102.3 Kiss blast in up here, I'm perplexed by that one as well.

Makes sense. Both are on the same tower, (along with WPTR), Buc Fitch's tower in Clifton Park, 18 miles north of the major tower farm. 102.3's signal creeps into Keene, NH as well.

I get WNYT 13 pretty good too,

From the top of Bald Hill in Troy, with a directional antenna aimed north, I am really not surprised on this one as well.

In the 60's when we lived in S. Lowell MA with my new Radio shack antenna I remember getting these skips also same FL stations they would come in clear after CH 2 and others went off the air in the early AM.
We now live outside Roanoke VA. and lately with my Xiam HD ant. i get Atlantic city ch-62 & NJ ch-16 and Washington DC ch-9. Mostly early AM. with the right cloud formations.........
