Big Troubles coming down the track at WPRO

I doubt WPRO can legally touch Depetro..
They must show CAUSE. Legal evidence.
Depetro could sue for millions and win..
Innuendo and what might be AIN'T enough guys..

To quote Howard Stern-Wow!

There is a lot to be concerned with on Oxford St and the Trail as well. Without having the winter numbers to compare to (or even last year's spring numbers for that matter) you can cee how much a silly little thing such as 6 diaries really affect and skew the ratings. Also, the tale of the more specific demos 25-54 and 35-54 are not adequately be represented by 12+; but it is good news on Chestnut St for WEEI-FM, somewhat for the Trail and for HJY; but HJJ getting beaten by an out of town Rhythmic station and KKB is not good news.

Ch 6 had it at 4pm...currently on the website for AQH 25-54 (they don't say if it is M-F or 7 day; but here are the ranks (no numbers associated with it) for pre revised book and post revised book:
Here are the revised numbers, released by Arbitron (persons 25-54, average Quarter Share):

Former Rank Current Rank

1- WHJY-FM 1- WHJY-FM

2- WEEI-FM 2- WEEI-FM

3- WPRO-FM 3- WPRO-FM

4- WPRO-AM 4- WWLI-FM

5- WWLI-FM 5- WCTK-FM

6- WCTK-FM 6- WSNE-FM

7- WSNE-FM 7- WPMZ-AM

8- WPMZ-AM 8- WWBB-FM

9- WWBB-FM 9- WPRO-AM

10-WJMN-FM 10- WJMN-FM

Not true...

As I understand from friends within that company...most talent and PD's only work from letters of agreement. Some do have contracts...but all of those contracts have a "Termination Without Cause" agreement within. I don't have to explain the definition of that clause. There may be some sort of compensation attached to it, but IF it's proven that he had knowledge (from Arbitron or otherwise)....good night.

For DiPietro to be able to sue...burden of proof would be on him to show otherwise.

That has to be AM drive...I cannot logically see how 436 QH's of listening could affect the M-Su 6a-Mid P 25-54 numbers that much in a market with 2,000 plus diaries being returned.

You are right. These are the adjusted numbers for the morning drive ONLY. In other words DePetro's ratings haven't changed very much. I'd love to see how close WPRO is to the number 1 spot after this adjustment.

Silver lining...

What continues to be stunning is WPRO's silence on this, fundamentally flawed PR.

On WPRI's noon show, the anchor read copy over video stills of the WPRO building exterior.
NO PEOPLE VISIBLE...like they're all hiding. Just a silent building.
Sadly, one of those shots showed the "Brine Broadcasting Center" sign.

What must listeners infer from this?

Silver lining: Clearly-under-instructions-to-make-NO-mention, and apparently on-his-best-behavior, Dan Yorke was, refreshingly, NOT doing the usual, tedious, "I," "I," "I," "ME," "ME," "ME" show today. Instead, an enthused conversation about the Olympic games. "And I will tell you this:" it was atypically engaging.

WPRO is silent. Depetro is Silent. Nobody wants to comment on this at all. Holland is right. It is very strange. The station isn't defending itself at all. Why wouldn't they at least deny having anything to do with this? Wouldn't that be your first move if you were actually innocent? I think they believe that if they are all quiet and pretend this didn't happen that it will all just go away. Of course as we already know...... with the Media.... NOTHING ever goes away. Remember that snowstorm that WPRO talked about nonstop for 6 months? I wonder if WPRO will now get a taste of it's own medicine whenever a ratings book comes out.

Ch 12 had a statement from Citadel....looking for it to post . Ch 6 had it 2nd or 3rd story at 6 (about the same as it was from 4p-had Corwin on camera no commenting, they also had John Fuller on thr Hot Topic segment at 4:30). I saw the story in the 5:30 report on Ch 10; but it was almost an afterthought.

Can't find the statement....but it was pretty much a "non statement" statement.

Does anyone have what the numbers were prior to the fix?

NBC10 does seem to be covering this less than the other stations.

I think it is because they have their own troubles they are looking to keep on the down low....

Nobody HERE do this!

Something NBC10 does to distinguish itself is the Ombudsman.
I expect that the other stations have one too, they just don't extend the offer as-overtly as NBC10 does.
And the disposition of that Rappleye flap demonstrates that the Ombudsman has clout.

Reading the outspoken/heartfelt/angry comments viewers are posting on ABC6.com is painful.
People feel betrayed.

Nobody HERE do this...but let's see if A VIEWER -- a "real people," not us buffs here -- asks the NBC10 Ombudsman why his station didn't devote as much time to this story as other stations.

Nobody HERE do this.
Honor system.

I read some of the comments on ABC6. But I choose to keep all my comments involving Radio to this website only. We here are radio freaks. I don't want to screw up what the common folk think. So I will uphold to that honor system Holland. I hope everyone else here can too.

Bill Rappleye wasn't the only offender lately, which is why Leslie Yeransian is gone from the station as well (I believe for the RI Tourism board story).
Ch 6 is treading in Ombudsman territory with the coverage of the story focusing solely on JD and not taking into account/checking on other WPRO personalities/employee living locations (John Deluca had some eyebrow raising/slanted questions to John Fuller during the 4:30 Hot Topic segment) with all fingers pointig toward JD.
Ch 12 has at least not done the finger pointing that Ch 6 has; but this is one viewers opinion.

I did chuckle at the little promo Ch 6 is running that Ch 10 won't have an 11pm newscast because of the Olympics, so tune on over to Ch 6 to catch the 11pm news. That would have to catch a CH 10 viewer's eye on the RI Newschannel or have a P1 CH 10 6pm news viewer tuning into CH 6 at 6pm.....from what the ratings say, that isn't happening, even if the Olympics weren't happening!

SMART tactical opportunity!

SMART.

My client in Fargo is also "ABC6," WDAY-TV, where we opted-NOT-TO do this, because WDAY is "the WJAR of its market," with a bigger share than the other stations combined. NOT BRAGGING. I'm not in TV news there. I work for the radio station.

My point is this: Only pick on people BIGGER-than-you.
WLNE being-the-aggressive-underdog, it's a card they'd be nuts NOT to play.

ABC 6 does this all the time with a new twist each day. One day last week they said something like "Keep it tuned in to ABC6. We've got more important things to say than Judge Judy or Oprah." ABC6 is definitely knocking the competition. But I only notice Paul Mueller doing this. His co-Anchor Allison Alexander never does.

You're all forgeting, BUDDY, works at ABC6.. They love Buddy, ask Hummel...
I think I smell a rat named Buddy,, watch..

As Dan Rather would say, "pull back and take the wide shot."

To PEOPLE...not us buffs here...but to PEOPLE...the good, honest working people of Southern New England...this is sad:
http://www.projo.com/news/content/BZ_ARBITRON_12_08-12-08_KIB6E18_v15.31a47a9.html

It's just plain sad, to the people who cooled-off every summer at Rocky Point.
To the people who waved at our float in the Bristol Parade.
To the tenth caller, for the Eagles album.
To the kids emptying their piggybanks into the fishbowl we manned, year-after-year at The Jerry Lewis Telethon.
To the people who listened to us on transistor radios during The Great Blizzard of 78.
To the little kids who phoned-into Matt Allen, to talk to Santa Claus...AND BELIEVED.

WPRO dropping-from-fourth-to-ninth is sad???
WPRO-BEING-FOURTH is sad-enough.

NO -- repeat, NO -- other station-in-the-nation had a better head start on having-a-LOCK-on the-hearts-of its listeners.
Now, this stony silence.

THIS is utterly unbefitting WPRO.
To put "WPRO" and "cheating" in-the-same-sentence is just sad.
And the station says nothing.

How are you getting tomorrows headlines 3 and a half hours before the time and date on that page? I'm going to start asking you for Lottery Numbers.
