And what the hell is happening to B101? I had no idea how badly the morning show ranked and the station as a whole is slipping. What's the problem? The morning show is actually good. The rest of the day blows but that's never stopped people from listening before. No market for the format? There's nowhere else in Providence to get this music and it's a demo that supposedly isn't into getting their music with computers, etc. Watch what happens. I predict a major shake up there once the new PD gets Coast settled.

Brine shrine insiders say that Johnny D was holding up in his bunker last Thursday for 5 hours waiting for the bloodhounds from the media to go away before he hit the parking lot. Well that didn't work out too well. Can they wait it out? Somebody is going to get the address of the diaries....soon.

Listen.... if the guy had no comment than he would have been a lot better off making a beeline to his car and not saying one damn word. All this bullsh*t about having a great morning show and then bringing up his vacation just made him look like an A**hole. John did not handle this well at all. So far the station itself doesn't seem to be doing much better.

I just read in the Boston Herald DePetro is #1 in the morning despite all this. How come that is not being reported more. Why do they list WPRO tied for second 12plus, but then jump to depetro 25-54? What is Buddy ranked 25-54? york?

boooooooooooo

This thread will soon end after WPRO starts talking and making some sense out of all this. Their silence is keeping the speculation going.

So is using 17 different names and talking to yourself on this board day in and day out. Don't worry Tony, they'll let you play on the radio again, eventually... Just take a breather will ya...

Secret Agency Man's post cannot be accurate...PRO-AM cant be that bad with 18-34 & 25-54 adults and still be 1/10 from #1 in 12+. It would mean they had to have gotten every single QH of listening from 55+ and those total QH's must be more than everyone else's QH's that are coming from mulitple demos.

I'm not a PRO-AM supporter...but I dont tolerate inaccurate crap being posted in a public forum

Let's all try to get along and keep things together...see no reason I have to review 6 threads that are essentially about the same thing....

whats even worse is having to read a post that is the exactly the same 5 times

LOL..... wknd92 did do that... didn't he? I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me for a second. lol

Please, don't end the thread!! This is as interesting a line of comments as I've read in a while. And, you really are following Mr. Cooke's "honor system," since no one has complained to the NBC10 ombudsman.

If a complaint was filed I suspect he'd respond that he reviews complaints about fairness, accuracy and balance in news reports. Absent a suggestion that failure to report a story was based on some improper motive, the decision of what to cover is basically a newsroom decision and beyond the scope of what the ombudsman does. That having been said, I agree with you self described "radio freaks" that it's a great story, but I think it has a limited interest outside of people in the business and those relatively few people who listen to talk radio on a regular basis. I suspect that's why it wasn't more actively reported on NBC10.

you should have just started a new thread about threads being about the same thing, then posted the same exact post in that thread

Luvcoors, my earlier posting of the Providence ranking is dead-on accurate. Your assumption of bogus information on a board is understandable but in this case not valid. However you are correct in assuming that the majority of PRO’s numbers are from the elderly. Monday-Friday in Morning Drive PRO ranks 11th in Persons 18-54, which is almost 9 shares behind the 1st ranked station. They rank 1st in Persons 55+ and over 9 shares ahead of the 2nd ranked station. The entire station shakes out in the same way. The majority of PRO’s listeners are old. If this story does anything, it will highlight that fact to any current or potential advertiser in bright yellow highlighter. The Channel 12 piece made mention of the median age of PRO is 64. From the data that is easy for me to believe.

Why so much attention is paid to 12+ numbers is beyond me. If Arbitron actually thought those numbers had any relevance to anyone for anything, do you think they’d just give them away?

Something I've been saying all along. For those stations looking for the younger demo (In Providence Hot, BRU & to a lesser extent HJY) 18-34 is really the first numbers I always looked at for being "real numbers". For most of the stations in town 25-54 is where the $$ is and always has been. Looking at it-right in the wheelhouse of Pro-FM, Coast, HJY, Lite, CTK, Pro-AM, EEI, HJJ, B's target demos. While it is true that B, HJJ & Pro-AM would look a little bit toward the older end of the demo and above, it is that small chunk in which everyone is fighting for.
As I said, while the elimination of those diaries hurt WPRO-AM, it also hurt the market as a whole as those 6 diaries might actually have been sent to other households, which would have had different affect on other stations' ratings, especially seeing as it was supposedly 25-34 year old distribution.

Instead of just throwing the 6 diaries out, they should have reissued them to other households and then quickly factored them into the new ratings. I realize that this would have been an oddball thing to do. But this whole situation has been odd. At least those six diaries would have counted for something.
