BIG WECK EXCEEDS 4 SHARE!

Oh, heck
All I hear is WECK
Like a chicken's peck
My brain turns into a speck

The Climate Crisis may make the premise of whether Geezer Radio can generate revenue academic...
Let's stick to broadcasting. This is not a political or environmental change forum.

Could/would WECK (or any station, for that matter) buy itself some substantial beneficial exposure and audience by doing another updated 'war of the worlds' thing? Seems like it would fit seamlessly into WECK's persona.

I'll ignore all the 'geezer' posts and say that for an oldies station in the 2020s, this is IMPRESSIVE - beating NPR, WTSS, an established sports station and more. Congrats, WECK! Lots of '60s, Motown, and a bit of '70s thrown in too...it reminds me of my 'Kruzn' KTCR' in Yakima, which is still, amazingly, on the air at 980 AM and an FM stereo translator on 106.9. I've heard the station in various businesses here. The only difference is that KTCR also airs early rock 'n roll, Elvis, Little Richard, even Bill Haley. It also reminds me of how classic hits stations sounded like 20 years ago when I was growing up. Motown and Beatles/Rolling Stones were the favored songs to play back then. Now it's the late 70s and mostly 80s...including some overplayed 1988 Beach Boys song from a crappy Tom Cruise film that I will not say out loud because the Seattle board is infamous for it.

I wonder if it can actually beat Kiss 98.5 soon?

I’ll echo radiofan2023’s “God, no.” Jeff Kaye’s “War of the Worlds” was a one-of-kind endeavor that cannot and should not be replicated. 97 Rock tried in the late ‘90s. It was a fine effort. Kudos to those behind the re-make for trying. But to this listener, it fell short (as do many attempts in TV to reboot beloved shows). The creativity and production skills of Jeff Kaye. The talented DJs Sandy Beach, Jack Armstrong, Shane and Jim Quinn. The legendary radio newscasters, many of whom are in the Buffalo Broadcasting Hall of Fame. It simply can’t be replicated. So don’t even try. If you want to hear KB’s “War of the Worlds” after the kids finish “trick or treating” on Halloween, turn off the lights, find the original on the Internet and enjoy!

Congrats to WECK on breaking the 4 mark. Glad to see the station is succeeding.
Success in radio is defined by sales and bottom line profit, not ratings.

True, but certain owners seem obsessed with Nielsen (And a perceived bias).

On the Corporate level, success should also mean not having debt that crushes the company...

With all the conspiracy followers these days, no station would want to risk lawsuits from families of people killing themselves believing the end of the world is here. That would be a terrible car WECK.

The station operators who incessantly question Nielsen are those who have a very shallow knowledge of how research of any kind is done.
