According to Tom Taylor right on this site:
"Diaries are still important, and 42 small markets will now get bigger samples.
At no extra charge, says Steve Sinicropi. Also: Arbitron's recommending sample size increases for three bigger markets (Atlanta, Memphis and West Palm Beach), and that's key because the size of the eventual PPM panel will be based on the diary count. The company will be parleying with broadcasters in those three markets about the appropriate sample size."
Right now, Arbitron uses about 3,600 diaries every quarter in Atlanta. It's not clear how much bigger the sample will get and when this will come about. Obviously, whatever they do will be shortlived because PPMs are coming to Atlanta in the fall of 2008.
