Biggest Station Switch Ever ??

Funny backstory as I remember-Y-95 was not invited and Gary Edens call Bruce himself and they ended up on the remote.

Two months later-BK mornings on Y-95.

Back in the 80's when Jonathan Brandmeire left KZZP for Chicago it really hit KZZP hard. He had an 18 share in morning drive as I remember. Back then the GM for Nationwide Communications said he'd never invest that much in a morning show again. They were licking their wounds pretty good for awhile.

When KZZP signed on for the first time (as 104 KZZP) in early 1980, they raided KOPA for AM Driver "Crazy" Dave Otto. KOPA never dominated the then-Top 40 market, but they were really the only game in town since KUPD went rock a few years before. Dave Otto, however, owned the 12-24 demo in AM drive.

So KZZP sees Crazy Dave doing his schtick at KOPA and decides to make him an offer. He accepts and starts on KZZP a few days later. But wait! There's MORE! KOPA counter-offered and Dave returned to KOPA. The news was heralded on KOPA in PM drive to the strains of the "Welcome Back Kotter" them song. Dave did indeed come back...for a day or two, because KZZP counter-COUNTER offiered and Dave went back to KZZP to stay. KZZP then began to utterly dominate the Top 40 crowd and was on its way to legendary status (in its first incarnation - forget the lame 1990s version.) KOPA hung on for a while, but ultimately flipped to KSLX in 1985.

He later went to Houston, paving the way for the first incarnation of "Jonny in the Morning" on KZZP. Dave eventually came back to KZZP a few years later, but not in AM drive. He didn't last long.

Last I heard, Dave was using his real first name (Mark) and dropped the antics to do a straightforward AC show.

wasn't johnny at kzzp for only a year before going to wlup?

Revisiting "Crazy Dave." He also did mornings on KQXE. That was his entry into the Valley back in 1976. Phil Gardner did afternoons. They both bolted to go back to Cleveland, Ohio and that's when Crazy Dave came back to the Valley at KOPA. Even back in their prime, KOPA couldn't beat KRIZ for the top-40 crown. AM still winning that music battle after KUPD left the fight.

I remember reading on ALL ACCESS that Dave is doing mornings on one of JONES A/C formats based out of Denver.

Brandmeier was on the original KZZP for several years in the early 1980s; I want to say somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 - 4 years before bolting to Chicago.

In the 1990s. KZZP ran Johnny from Chicago, and that lasted no more than a year, if that long.

Actually, Brandmeier never worked for Nationwide. KZZP was owned by Western Cities Broadcasting when Johnny B was there. They sold to Nationwide in late 1984...Brandmeier was gone to the Loop by then.

The facts are as follows.

Brandmeier @ KZZP 18 months. Highest AM 12+ 8.2
Never translated to revenue.
Dave Otto on KOPA. A joke.
Tim & Willy on Young Buck ? 18 months 12+ 1.4
Tim & Willy on KNIX ? Killed W's #'s by 70%.
Dave Ryan from KZZP to Power ? Tee Hee.
Dave Pratt on Zone & Camel ? Yawn.

Bruce Kelly KZZP to Y-95 ? Flipped positions in one book.
Biggest One Book Major Market ARB collpase in ARB history.

BK Y-95 to Power ? Same Story.

BOTH stations he left had to change format within one year &
revenues drop by 90%.

BOTH stations he joined saw revenues increase by 900%.
