Bill Bailey Passes

From WHAS 11:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11)- Louisville Radio personality Bill Bailey has passed away. He was 81-years-old.

Known as the Duke of Louisville, Bailey, whose given name was William Boahn, worked as the morning radio personality for WAKY in the 60s and 70s. He often partnered with WHAS11's Reed Yadon.

He officially retired from radio work in 1994.

In 2003, Bailey suffered a stroke and resided in Friendship Manor Nursing home after that. He continued to entertain guests for the eight years he was there.

Two photos are also included of him from possibly the early 70s.

R.I.P. Mr. Bailey.

Here's more on Bill Bailey's death...

At 3 p.m. today on 103.5, Johnny Randolph is hosting many of the old WAKY DJs in a discussion of Bill Bailey's life. Probably would be worth "rolling tape" on this one. If you are out of the area, you can listen to WAKY's stream at http://waky1035.com.

Arriving in Louisville after midnight, I set my alarm for 6am in hopes of finding a solution for my WLS opening. Almost immediately I recognized why this guy was top rated, his unique voice, delivery & humor should do what WLS wasn’t doing, beating Howard Miller at WIND and Wally Phillips at WGN.
