Bill Bannister Out at WRVR?!

I cannot believe they cut Bill..very nice guy and a very hard worker.

Does Entercom have their employees sign a noncompete clause that binds them for six months after termination? I know that nobody is forced to sign such contracts, but I would like to think that Bannister is free to seek out another radio opportunity immediately. I don't know if that is the case or not.

Even if Bill didn't have a non-compete where would he go..Clear Channel?..Cumulus?...both of those companies have no regard for quality local talent. Its a crime that he will probably have to move to another city to earn the type of money he was getting. Look at some of the fine talent that has exited the industry and the city over the past years.

Call letter change from WQUD to WRVR was on January 23, 1981.
I always felt like the "Quad 104" name was an attempt to cash in on the popularity of "quadrophonic sound" back in the late '70s. And I thought it strange (at least at first) that they called themselves "the River," given that their studios were about as far as you could go from the river, and still be in Memphis.

He probably won't be able to get that kind of money in any other market, either, sad to say.

Ya' think?

Not unless they were actually broadcasting in quadrophonic sound. Wouldn't that have been cool? 8)

They were. For a while, at least.

Doren Quadraplex, I believe it was called. It went the same way AM stereo went and HD is headed.

I talked to Bill a bit yesterday. He is still in shock. Seems quite understandable. If you wouldn't mind, send a prayer or positive thought his way.

Bill Bannister for Chris Vernon???....That's worse than the Ernie Broglio / Lou Brock trade...that the Cubs made in 1964.

Vernon did not replace Bill Bannister, Karen Perrin or Rick Dees for that matter.
Stop making ridiculous accusations.

I think he meant via allocation of avaialable payroll budget, and it's not so ridiculous.

The statement is factually incorrect.
Show some evidence if you are going to make a charge against someone.

I think it's pretty obvious Entercom has decided to put their money and effort on getting Vernon at the expense of Bill and Karen, and to me that's a dirty deal. Nothing personal against Vernon, but I think Entercom will pay for this in the long term.

Dude, chill out. No one’s accusing Vernon of anything. He negotiated his salary just as anyone else would. But I’m sure they have a fixed amount budgeted for salaries. If they wanted Vernon, something had to give somewhere and someone made a business decision. It happens in sports all the time. That doesn’t make it right, but it doesn’t make it factually inaccurate either.

Bill and I go way back, and I said at the top of this thread I thought this was a dumb move.
