Even though Delilah may not fit with the NY people,it is sure ten times cheaper than having local/live talent.Could LA be next?

Spoken like a true bean counter with no talent other than to cut cut cut.

Delilah was on KBIG in LA at one point....

Yes Delilah was on at KBIG and Karen Sharp at KOST cleaned her clock. I can't imagine CC putting her on at KOST, or for that matter at WLTW. I'm guessing that they'll hire new people and pay them AFTRA scale. (They've already announced a new morning team) Scale is still a lot cheaper than what long time employees would've been making. After that many years, and most of that time when the station was NOT a CC owned property these long time employees were most likely making quite a bit over scale. They could be saving 20 to 50 grand per person and in the case of morning drive, who knows, could've been quite a bit more. That's something that the air talent at KOST and other CC properties where they've had the same staff for years would be smart to think about. But that being said, CC will bring in a Brinks truck for who they want to, with the others being told "no raise" or "you're done"...

About two weeks ago in Allentown Ken Matthews was let go after 15 years in AM drive at CC's WAEB FM. I guess if you are a long time employee or making more than six figures at a CC station WATCH OUT.

Six figures in ALLENTOWN...????

;-)

Ken Matthews had been on the air doing mornings for over 15 years. Yeah, when you roll up all the compensation into a ball it was over six figures per year. I doubt that anyone starting now in the market would make more than 65k but Ken (for a number of years) was the number one morning guy at the number one station. The station and he made a bundle. And I do not not believe that his salary was ever decreased over those 15 years.

Well, KOST didn't have to do anything except 'not drop the ball', as they were the established station.

KBIG and KOST are co-owned, so I am not sure they wanted or thought that Delilah would actually 'beat' KOST....maybe they were just giving in to the network and corperate directives. (Remember CC owns Delilah.)

Well, CC is doing a lot of things that we never could've imagined.

Especially in this latest round of talent disposal.

CC Just put Delilah on their AC in DC...WASH.

They just paid a gazillion dollars for the Delilah show....I gotta think they did so with the thought of making sure she airs in the top 15 markets. (She has traditionally not done well in majors, or any competitive situation.)

The real story here is who makes the decisions at the station.

Is it the local management, the upper management, corperate, or the people at the co-owned network.....

Usually the local management team makes the decisions on most functions.

Then you have never worked for a major corporation!

25 years ago, I worked at an NBC O&O...and there was ALWAYS pressure coming down the pike to take NBC Network programs!

(Does anyone remember DC's WKYS in it's "disco" incarnation carrying the network newscast every hour?)

When we were doing well, we could hold the forces at bay.
When we weren't doing so well, we weren't in a position to fight.

25 years later, the same things are happenning!

It never changes!

I'm not in New York right now, so who is doing the evening show now?

Make no mistake about it. If Delilah lands on LTW, the decision was not made by Ryan. It's pretty well known through the industry that these two can't stand each other. Certainly would explain why Delilah was yanked from WHUD awhile back.

It's well known?

I can understand a PD not liking Delilah, many programmers do not like her program.

Why wouldn't Delilah like Jim Ryan?

Does Delilah even know who Jim Ryan is?

What would explain it?

The fact that Lite is going to put on Delilah is reason why it was yanked from WHUD. That would explain why Premiere pulled it from them.

But why would it have to be yanked from WHUD, even if Lite FM was adding her?

I will say that I am happy that WHUD now has a much better local show.

However,WLTW may carry a"Voicetracked"version of the Delilah show.WLTW may still carry their own music and playing only her talk contents.Do you fellas know what other stations carry the voicetrack version of her show?

What? I thought her show was syndicated and the same show on every station. Where do you get this speculation?

Her show is syndicated! However,I found an article in the NY times(link from"Radiodailynews.com",dated November 9th)indicating that WLTW may carry a special version of her show.

So is Valerie Smaldone

NERW said it's due to the Clear Channel budget cuts. She had been doing middays from the moment Lite FM signed on in 1984.

This is similar to the Thanksgiving purge at WABC in 1979. The big difference is that Lite FM is the #1 station in the #1 market -- and CC is destroying, bit by bit, a lot of what makes Lite FM work.

According to NERW, CC was considering Whoopi Goldberg (syndicated by a CC subsidiary) for Lite FM but put her on KTU instead.

B 101 in Philadelphia runs a voice tracked version of Delilah. Premiere needs to have her cleared in NYC. That's why..in spite of the wishes of the Mighty Jim Ryan, it's probably going to happen. Jim gave it a good fight though for alot of years to keep her off his air.I wonder if the self proclaimed "queen" of sappy love songs will be coming to the Apple anytime soon for an appearance.

Lite FM in '06 = WABC in '79
