Bill Bunn, Dead @ 82

Probably the most recognizable voice of local Wilson radio, Bill Bunn, passed away on Thursday. He was 82. His broadcasting career spanned over 50 years, mostly at WGTM and later in his career at WVOT. Bill Bunn was, at one time, part owner of WGTM, along with Vann Campbell & the late Jim Rochelle.

He gave me my first chance to work in a radio station, was a wonderful and kind boss and mentor. He will be greatly missed.

If it had not been for Bill, I would have never gotten into radio. I remember going to the studios in the bank building in Wilson and watching Bill with wonder. When I was old enough, he took me out to the Transmitter. He kept that old Rayethon Transmitter going till they got the Visual Transmitter. Bill was instrumental in my understanding of directional arrays, STL links and Audio consoles as well as that old automation system. I helped move from the bank building to the studios at 42. I understand that everything has fallen into disrepair there, It would probably break my heart to see it now. Although I lost communication with him, I will miss him very much. He helped several of us to love the industry. Probably one of the smoothest voices in the industry, He could "sell snowballs to eskimos".
