Bill Defelice, Where's Peter Busch on WEBE?

Wow! I usually listen to the AM (WICC) on the way home so I didn't even notice. He's still on the web site so I doubt he's gone.

Maybe he's off racing, but I would think that would have been mentioned since he often mentions his participation in auto races.

Oh, Peter - where are ya?

If I had any ham gear, I would. I know Peter was pretty active helping the folks at St. Luke's with their 10 watter (in fact I think Peter was a past alumni).

I have worked with peter for many years, I did not know he was a Ham.
What is his call?

Not sure Ed. I recall talking to him a couple years ago on I think either 147.180 or 441.700. I don't remember the call. Speaking of ham radio, I haven't heard you on the air in a while, and your 441.500 seems to only relay NASA. I never hear anyone breaking in to talk anymore. I was in Bridgeport recently, and as my wife was driving, I managed to get some really good pics of the WEBE stack out the passenger window. That 6-bay really kicks, considering its mounting location!

Looks like he's out of there..Just saw an ad on AllAccess looking for a new afternoon driver at WEBE..Also looks like imaging responsibilities come with the territory......and dealing with Curt Hansen...

Well, if anyone here could tell you what the straight skinny is, it would probably be Ed. He is, after all, the CE. Maybe he's not at liberty to say.

Well, if that's the case, Peter had a long run there. Who knows if it wasn't a meeting of the minds or what have you.

Keep in mind all the big players are looking to control costs while dealing with all the internal stuff within their clusters. I won't speculate on what could have happened, but the radio biz has gotten tougher than when I was doing it full time.

well, according to inside sources Peter will be hitting the racing circuit and leaving WEBE.

You figure he has to be doing pretty good, money wise, to dabble in auto racing - that's one expensive hobby.

Pretty big opening and it will undoubtedly have many eager applicants for PM drive on Connecticut's Arbitron-rated #1 station. I don't know if they're available and will apply but some good Connecticut DJ's for consideration would be Jason Kyle, Frank Ward, John Harper, Tony Terzi, Wendy Corey, and the current host Larry Carringer.

Bill you are correct peter has left WEBE to work on his Racing career.
He was not let go. Peter will be avalable to fill in from time to time.
So now the search is on for a replacement.
Ed

Not that I hold anything against Peter, but his departure could open up new pastures for the both of them. Peter will undoubtedly enjoy his racing ventures and WEBE will forge ahead with a new sound in the afternoon. Considering Peter has been one of the long-term folks on the station I'm sure his presence will be missed.

It will be interesting to see who they hire ... and how much they dish out for pay! From what I heard, they don't pay much on the AM side of things so I wonder if they'll be lookin' for a bargain. Then again, would you trust what would probably be one of the best known signals in the county to an on-air hack? Well, the proof is in the pudding hiring!

I have my own idea of who they should hire, but I'll wait until the slot is filled to tell you who I think would the the choice for the new voice.

Some interesting names there. I know Jason Kyle is a good "rock jock" but couldnt pull off the attempt at converting to overnights at Star. Didnt have the right sound I guess. Not a knock against him because I like him. I think Harper and Ward may be out of state. But it does make you think about the jocks who been let go from the local airwaves lately in regards to who could/would be a good fit for WEBE. Floyd Wright?, John Seville? Jack Carney...the list goes on. And as far as current local part time announcers, with radio being so rigid, especially on the weekends, with alot of shifts VT'd, it gets harder to do the work that gets you noticed. This is a rare opportunity to be part of a lineup that has been one of the most consistent on the Ct. dial.

Some interesting names there. I think Jason Kyle is a good "rock jock" and I believe at one time tried his hand at overnights for star. I think Harper and Ward may be out of state. But it does make you think about the jocks who been let go from the local airwaves lately in regards to who could/would be a good fit for WEBE. Floyd Wright?, John Seville? Jack Carney, Elizabeth Yates...the list goes on. And as far as current local part time announcers, with radio being so rigid, especially on the weekends, with alot of shifts VT'd, it gets harder to do the work that gets you noticed. Other than a change of co-hosts for WEBE's morning show and some changes at night, the heart of that lineup has got to be one of the more consistent in the state. Its a rare opportunity to work afternoons at a station that has delivered consistent numbers, and knowing this I'm sure Curt's going to take his time to make sure he finds the absolute right person for the job.

Bill, put this name out there to Curtis Hanson!

I don't know if its feasible or not but if you know the two men in question you might be able to orchestrate something real good here. Al Bernie Bernstein from Lite FM would be a perfect fit for WEBE. Bernstein would have no problem with WEBE's format since it's identical to Lite, and in Bernstein WEBE would have a long-time capable and highly regarded veteran jock. If it can be done Bill, you should give it a shot. Since you worked at WEBE for so many years your opinion probably will carry more weight than most.

LIradiofan226, I don't think I have as much weight as you think (except around the belly!). I was an engineer for WEBE and I think Curt would feel he has an idea of the air talent he would be looking for. Also, I also happen to have an idea of whom I would recommend to Curt if I were to ever voice it to him and while I know of and heard Al, he isn't the one I happen to have in mind.

It will certainly be interesting to see who ends up there when all is said and done.

I don't know who they will choose but Larry Caringer sounds pretty good filling in. Why don't they just give him the gig?

X

Floyd Wright would be a great choice!
If you go back to KC101 days when Curt was PD, Floyd was doing afternoons!

Get your spelling straight

It's Peter Bush -- as in the US president, not as in beer.

He did weekends at WABC in its final months as a music station. In fact, his last shift on WABC was the night before it switched to talk.
