I've never heard that and can't find any evidence of it.
I think Bill Drake was pretty solidly focused on KRTH in '92/'93.
KYA had Bob Hamilton as the PD in those years, and if you had Bob, you didn't really need Drake. He knew and understood all of Drake's philosophy and brought some strengths of his own that complemented that.
