Bill Drake Memorial

Since nobody has posted anything here, let me say a little something about the Bill Drake memorial. For a guy who grew up as a 93/KHJ freak and was inspired into radio because of Boss Radio, I had to attend. I meet Bill Drake once. I asked him about his voice work on Boss Radio and he placed his mouth to my ear and gave me the line… “And now ladies and gentlemen…” OMG I shook. He was so nice and shared stories, and we drank for over an hour. I was so moved by this that I named my son who was about to be born, after him, William Drake (surname). My son understands what this man meant. Well I am by far not alone. The place was packed and the respect and love for Bill Drake was obvious. I felt honored even being in the company of so many radio greats. Gary Owens, Ken Levine, Charley Tuna, Les Garland, Jhani Kaye, and ‘Watson’ all spoke. And at the end a note arrived. Reverend Charley Van Dike read it. It was a goodbye poem written by Drake. It was absolutely beautiful. I hope Don Barett publishes it.

I can’t imagine the legacy of Bill Drake ever ending. He is alive in so many talented personalities of today, in formatics and music presentation. He will be missed, but he will be with us forever. Someone said, and I agree. He was number 1 then, and number 1 forever. Thank you Bill.
