Bill Drake (Spartanburg)

Thank you to all who have expressed your questions and concern for "Awake with Drake's" Bill Drake. A Spartanburg morning institution since 1976, Bill has been so much to so many. From other broadcasters to everyday people - Drake is beloved in this town. For those unaware, Bill was diagnosed with esophageal cancer late last year. He went through rounds of chemo and radiation to shrink the cancer to an operable size. That was successful as was the surgery to remove it. He had a very rough time of it post surgery...without going into detail, it has taken quite some time, however, yesterday he was moved out of ICU to restorative care. Thanks again to all who have lifted him up in prayer and been so supportive during this time for he and his family. He'll be back with your 'first call to breakfast' and more in the near future!

It disturbs me....as to why this thread has been up for over a week now, and No-one...No-fellow-Broadcaster has bothered to type nary a jot, nor tittle.
Is it always left up to me? Bill Drake is a Regional Media Icon! No, his era of music is a little old for me, but I have listened many times to his show. He always has a sensible spin on the current, an accurate recall of the past, and a fore-site to predict the truth. The late, Wally Mullinax was a Radio Icon, Monty Dupuy did so on both Radio & TV. Bill Drake, our Carson...of the Sinatra era,....even hosts an annual Christmas variety show, at The Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium; a 3400+ sell-out each year. It's not difficult to register respect for this man,....and relentless Prayer for a man that is having some serious heath issues.

Scooter Lesley,
A friend of the late, Wally Mullinax,
Monty's Rascals class of March '65,
and a listener of "Awake,...with Bill Drake"!

Scooter,

It probably has to due with the fact that RadioDiscussions went "belly-up" for 4 to 6 months earlier this year / at the end of last year. The Charlotte Board has had *0* replies since 4/12/14 so S.C. is lucky that some of you are still posting.

-Steve.
