Bill Flynn gone from Rush radio

Bill Flynn played a major role in the face of radio in the Triad! He certainly deserves more than "hate" and "BS" comments. We all know that he worked for Clear Channel and was nothing more than a pawn in the CC game of radio. Bill you will be remembered as a personality that helped shapre the history of GSO Radio .. CC was the problem here .. Not Bill Flynn! Go your merry way Bill and walk tall .. you earned it!

I think most people, outside of us radio geeks, will still remember him from Magic99.5 instead of Rush Radio. Shoot the fact that we still refer to it as Magic99.5 says something there.

No going away party, no gold watch, not even a bumper sticker! Just 5 minutes to clean out your desk with a security guard watching your every move! :D

I think the decision was probably made FOR him...just like the decision to put that dreadful woman with him. I seriously doubt he had any input into THAT decision

You'd be wrong. I asked Bill about making this move back in January. I, like you, assumed the decision was made for him. That couldn't be further from the truth. Bill asked for this gig. He had to audition for it doing stints on another CC talker down in South Carolina. He had to prove his chops to a panel of CC corporate types who were looking to fill this role. Bill Flynn wanted to try his hand at something different. This was his call.

As for his co-host, that part I do not know if he had any input on. In listening to the show, I can't imagine that he did. It really seemed like the two hated each other at times with the way they'd argue on the air. And not about the issues. It was more about one talking over the other, etc. You guys have been in this business long enough to know the difference between two hosts with mutual respect disagreeing on the air and two people who genuinely don't like each other. I think it was the latter. But Bill would never admit it to me. He's too professional for that.

Actually I heard that he was offered to stay with WMAG doing afternnons... as he's being doing since the flip of rush radio. It is his decision to stay though.

That horrible woman sounded like she was more frustrated with Bill's lack of knowledge than with anything else. She wasn't the best, and they obviously set that show up to fail, but I don't think she was as bad as some of you have described.

OH NO! You are mistaken; she was quite awful and clearly felt she should be the "lead" or, alternately, the sole host of the show, which is a real laugh

I agree with you 100%. That is exactly my impression the first time I heard the show. I always felt there was a power struggle betweem the two of them. It's correct that Bill Flynn went for that job. He wanted to do it. And just for the record, I know Mr. Flynn quite well and I can call it "Hate Radio" if I want. The anger generated is not healthy, in my opinion. You're trying to paint it that I'm disparaging Bill, and that is not the case. While always conservative, I never heard him get quite as worked up as he did on that horrible show. BUT, he DID choose to go that route.
After seeing Rush Radio's ratings, I'm pretty sure Bill will be mostly remembered for his role on 99.5 WMAG. And, I can tell you that Bill is well-fixed financially and doesn't need to work at all.

Maybe she should have been. Clearly Bill as the lead didn't work otherwise he'd still be on in the mornings.

Imagine how insulting it is to have to TRY OUT for a job. He's BILL FLYNN, for gosh sakes! After all he's done for them over the years, they make him try out for a job. RIDICULOUS! And then they "pair him up with a chick" like he's some 25-year-old at a CHR station in Dothan, AL or some crap. He was treated just terribly.

Ever talked to anyone that has actually worked with him, goatboy?

Actually, yes. Many. And the only one who bitches incessantly about him is Songster. Everyone else dug him (never talked to Pam; hope I never have to)

Except airstaff, promotions, and sales that ever had to work with him...This guy that "everyone dug" is a pompous ass that wouldn't do a remote break unless the microphone was in a mic stand on the table. Dead air is better to him than the great Bill Flynn having to hold a microphone.

You're grasping at straws here, goat. The guy had never done talk radio before. If you ever have, I'm sure you know it's a completely different ballgame. What idiot would put a 25+ year music radio DJ on a talk show without hearing him do it first? Thank God you don't run any stations! The staff would just be full of people who got jobs because of "all they've done over the years", instead of people who actually deserve to be on the air.

Clear Channel, that's who.

What idiot would have a conservative talk radio CALL IN RADIO PROGRAM without a delay button (Remember their little President Obama mishap earlier this year). Or with a producer that was too stupid/inexperienced not to make sure the delay was on. And what idiot would conveniently fire the Ops manager after that happened? Please, CC clearly doesn't give a flying F about their Greensboro market. Squeeze every penny they can out of those stations.

Quarter by Quarter by Quarter, if it ain't rising profits see ya later. Especially if you make a lot of money. I don't know what really happened but either way Flynn shouldn't have been in that position. If he wanted to host the show they should have laughed and said no thanks Bill. If they made him go there it's BS and to pair him up with the radio equivalent of an alarm clock going off that is even more BS.

There's a difference between your opinion based on listening to your speakers and knowing what went on inside the room. Just be careful how you shield and who you throw stones at. But then again, that's probably not what message boards are for...

surrice it to say, it has been a long time since a good decision was made in the CC GSO building.

I don't know Flynn and won't engage in character assasination, but the program was not good and performed very poorly.

His firing, isn't a surprise, but seems impulsive, since they have no replacement, so cost cutting was clearing part of
the decision.

CC has to be one of the most depressing places in town to work. What successes can they point to in the last few years?
A failed attack on QMG with Kiss
An ass kicking from the Wolf for TQR
A spanish station that got better ratings than their news/talk
MAG on the ropes, except during Christmas music

I will say it was a stroke of genius, in a cost cutting sort of way, to change the Buzzard to The Buzz...that way they only had to black out the ARD on the station vehicle, so they got that going for them.

Hahaha, I find this funny.... I once owned a station in Dothan! ;D

This morning it was a Rush rerun. There is an ad on all access for a new morning guy.
I enjoyed hearing Rush on Veterans Day. I was trying to listen to the beautiful music station in Greenville, SC, but hey, that works too.

I hate it for Bill. I always thought he was a nice guy and he had been there forever.
True. I never listened to him on WMAG but this is the impression I got.
