Bill Gardner is BACK, on-the-air, find out where!

After six whole months, Bill Gardner returns to the radio beginning yesterday morning, August 25, in the 5:30-10 AM time slot.

He can be heard on the new, soon-to-be more powerful AM 670 "The Q" in Las Vegas, as well as 99.3 on the FM, KMZQ, Payson-Phoenix.

Good news for anyone, anywhere: Online streaming is in the works and should be coming soon at www.670theQ.com and www.993theQ.com!

670 is not currently on the air - has it ever been? Even when it does go on, it is unlikely to be heard south of Kingman. Its major daytime lobe (at 30 kW) is to the northwest with a minor one to the southeast. It's major nighttime lobe (at 600 watts) is to the southeast, but its unlikely to reach Phoenix with that power level. It has to protect Chicago, Boise, LA, and Denver so it's "shoehorned" in.

99.3 is still the 104.7 translator on Shaw Butte. Maybe that will change in the future.

Right now the first link is to a rudimentary website with no "Listen Live" link. The second one is a placeholder.

Lauren,

Do you know if Bill sold the plane and moved to Vegas? Seems like he was always up there.

I remember Bill saying on-air once that LV had no oldies stations. Hopefully he'll be back and the station will sound like "The River" in Reno.

99.3 is a translator for KAMJ 104.3 not KZZP 104.7

Uh...I knew that. Damn keyboard. Or, I need to drink coffee before posting. Doh! ;D

Don't let Radio-Locator fool you Keith. 670 has been on the air from sunup to sundown for a couple months now, as they've been on testing. I even picked the signal up about 50 miles south of Ely, NV. Not sure about the station in Payson but Bill did say they were on a backup transmitter on Wednesday morning.

RadioLocator doesn't even recognize the existence of any station in metro Las Vegas on 670. My info came from the FCC, which lists it as "CP Off Air."

And, I heard what was on 99.3 for myself (just typed in the wrong originating frequency).

This is a frequency with a lot of changes. When I first got to Phoenix, I could usually get KBOI's skywave, especially early in the morning. That signal was altered to allow a change in the Los Angeles market, moving to a new site a station licensed to Simi Valley, programming Farsi and broadcasting from an unusual site in the middle of a nursery. http://www.fybush.com/sites/2008/site-080801.html With that change not happening, it probably allowed the new station in Las Vegas.

I got an email from Bill today. He said their engineering crew says the 99.3 translator from 104.3 is "illegal." Hopefully they will be able to power up soon. Someone also tolh him that they'll cover the northern half of Phoenix very well, and be OK on the south side.

Where, in the Valley, can 99.3 KMZQ-FM be heard instead of Mega? If anybody's tried... I'd be interested in hearing in what area.

I've been able to have KMZQ come in and out while driving near the Mesa-Gilbert border. Audible in some areas but still spotty.

As for the 99.3 translator, hasn't it become redundant for Mega since 104.3 upped their wattage to match 95.1, 97.5, and 98.3?

Actually, the owner of the 99.3 translator has been trying to stop KMZQ from raising their power for about three years now (the details are here). I always thought that a full-service station had precedent over a translator, but maybe not.

Their signal is usually OK here in Fountain Hills. Once you drive south or west, it's all Mega. I even got a direct mail postcard promoting the station back when they first signed on.
