Bill Gardner OUT @ KOOL !

Part of CBS cutbacks nationwide.
Rumor in KOOL bldg. is Bruce Kelly on the way back from Classic HIts in Miami.
CBS Pres. Dan Mason is his former PD and LOVES BK.
CBS going to regional syndy of mornings in that format.

Bill is one of the most positive, consistently creative, and hard working air talents in the nation.

Here's a prediction: His next job will be better than his last!

NO F-ING WAY!!!!! I would use every word in the book here if I wouldn't get deleted. I didn't believe you until I saw his page is already gone.

Mornings will NEVER, EVER be the same!!! They have NO idea how horrible that decision is. Everybody loves Bill Gardner! He isn't "just another morning show host" at all... his personality is UNBEATABLE. And the chemistry between Bill, John, and Maria can NEVER be matched. Trust me. You will see how crappy the mornings will be. Along with the drop in listenership for the mornings.

I have listened to the Bill Gardner Morning Show for 4 years now, since I was a Freshman in high school. EVERY morning! Even many mornings during the summer when I could be sleeping in. Surely, there are people of ALL ages who are long time listeners to Bill Gardner and absolutely love him. How could that be anything but a GREAT thing to have for a morning show host?? And something to cherish and keep... even in the times of cutbacks??! Do what it takes to keep someone so great?

I hope whoever is in charge is reading this. And STRONGLY reconsider, think about the consequences of a decision such as this..... please. If someone my age is so passionate about this decision, just IMAGINE what people who are actually IN the age demographics are thinking!

Don't pinch me, I already know this surely is just a nightmare.... and that I will continue to start my mornings off the best way there is: Hearing Bill Gardner along with John Michaels and Maria Knight!

Don't forget Dave Shannon.

It appears that he is also a victim to these cutbacks.....

If not Bruce Kelly... Camelback Jack for the Morning Show, do you think? That's just a random guess... no info behind it...

It's not surprising that CBS is following in the wake of Clear Channel cutbacks and have unleashed some longtime (read: expensive) morning shows. This industry is reinventing itself as we speak, for the sake of self preservation. The roller coaster ride has just begun.

I heard it wasn't Bruce Kelley they were interested in, but another former morning man who worked for Dan Mason, Bob "Boze" Bell. I know Mark Waters has worked with Bell, too.

The trick will be trying to find someone who fits the "KOOL sound" -their personalities are truly unique. The wrong fit could be disasterous.

I'm sure Kris "Brought Back the Fun" Abrams will surprise us.

In one word, consistently good. Yeah, yeah we used two, but the Nurse and I think he deserves it.

Think Tim & Willy would be interested....hmmmmm?

 ... No.

Besides, it was the bigger paycheck that they wanted back at the country station! ;)

I personally think Lee Bortel would be the BEST choice to take over the morning show, if he would want to. I mean, he practically does from 4:45 to 5:20 and does a good job...

I just caught the tail end of Camelback Jack saying something to Mojo about visiting the morning crew tomorrow? Sounds like he might be filling in tomorrow morning. ???

I worked with Bill in the mid 90's in Greenville, SC. He is the best prepped jock without question. I'll bet he is still sticking snipits of news articles to an 8 X 11 sheet of paper.

Sad to hear he was let go. He could say more over an 11 second intro than any of us......then again, he's an airline pilot.....if you're going down......you gotta say it quick!

Closed circuit for PD Kris:

We realize you didn't pull the trigger, that it came from above.

Dan Mason and the bean counters at Black Rock, although I'm
surprised that Mason let it happen--after all, he became the
savior of oldies...er, classic hits...radio last year when he said
"hit the road, Jack" and brought back CBS-FM. I guess radio
programming execs can no longer overrule bean counters...
maybe they never could.

Several decades ago, one CBS commentator (Sevareid? Rooney?)
said "CBS used to stand for the Columbia Broadcasting System,
now it's just a set of initials."

And today it's down to just two initials--BS.

Gardner's morning show will be missed after nine years. That's
some longevity.

I remember his first KOOL show on 02/01/99. Soon afterwards I
posted (on whatever version of the pre-R-I Tanim Board we had)
that he said the "KOOL 94.5" liner seven times in one mic break
between a song and a stopset. Of course now no one says
"KOOL 94.5" on air. ;D It soon became one of two, sometimes
three, regular choices on the radio during the drive into work,
including this morning. Little did we know...

So Kris, how do we get him back? I know, it ain't gonna happen,
but what if I promise not to complain anymore about hearing
Brown Eyed Girl for the 8000th time? ;)

A very sad day for Phoenix radio and CBS listener's nationwide. Just another example of what's wrong with radio, with the bean-counters and suits only caring about the bottom-line and lopping off high salaries.

When Bill Gardner gets it after leading KOOL to consistantly top ratings, no one is safe, except for the minimum-wage flunkees that station GMs will hire in the place of real talent.

Good luck, Bill, I'm sure you'll land on your feet again.

This is CBS Radio at it's finest. I'm not the least bit surprised by this, after all this is the company that thought FM Talk with Stern imitators was the way to rake in the big bucks. It's pretty hard to screw up the oldies format, but CBS is really working to do so--Bill should look at this as a blessing in disguise, he got a life boat off the CBS Titanic, but it is the valley's loss nonetheless.

Maybe they'll use the CC formula:

6-9am Tom Peake
9-3pm Camelback Jack
3-6pm Tom Peake (voice tracked)
6-mid out of market voice-track
mid-6 Drew Bland

Really really hate to hear that. Bill is one of my heroes from way back at KVIL

I didn't hear Tom Peak on the air Friday.

They could'nt have....
They wouldn't have...

Nah. There's no way they would ever get rid of Peaker. He is KOOL.

It's interesting to note, however, that longevity didn't protect a few, very longtime CBS employees, nationwide.
