Bill Heiderich R. I. P.

Bill's passing was mentioned under my 1967 thread but I believe he deserves a thread of his own. Bill Heiderich was a giant of Utica-Rome radio. His success was do to him being such a great guy. I only met him a couple times in passing but had great respect for him. Some of the greatest radio in the market (anywhere) came while he was the G. M. of WIBX/WNYZ in the 80's.
He's been around forever. He became an important figure in Utica radio in the 40's. He will be missed by everybody he came in contact with.

Bill was a great radio salesman that all the "marketing grads" should have learned from. No excuses. He just delivered the goods. He, along with Ed Carey from WTLB & Lloyd Walsh from WRUN were masters at what they did. They serviced their clients and got to know them personally. Certainly the could do a lot on the phone but they loved going out and meeting new people. All three gents understood the ratings but could sell without it to their target audiences. Wish the new "Kids" knew what they knew.

That makes me sad. I was WIBX/WNYZ from '86-'89 and Bill was always very good to me. Always a big smile and a handshake hello. Plus, when I would have a chance to talk with him at length, he made it feel like you and him were the only ones in the room. He took the time with a young guy like me and that left a very big impression. And it's something I've taken with me at all my stops since to right now in Dallas. The young guys and girls that you help now will appreciate it later on as well. Bill had a good soul and that will be his legend for me.

Nick Riva (a.k.a. Gregg Murray at WNYZ)
