Bill Lacy hangs up the mic

WHTT/104.1 morning man Bill Lacy is calling it a career on May 27th. Lacy spent 20 years(beginning in April 2002)doing AM drive for WHTT after moving over from WBEN/930, where he held down mornings for 16 years-replacing Jeff Kaye in that post. Lacy started his career at WBUF/92.9; he also had stops in Rochester, Jamestown, Bradford PA as well as Erie's WRIE/1260.

A search is underway to see who will become WHTT's new morning host.

(Info in this post was gleaned from WGRZ and WKBW-whose website posted stories about him, RadioInk.com as well as a press release from Cumulus Media.)

I remember when Bill came here to Erie from Jamestown NY's WJTN. I was in high school at the time but he first was at WWYN 1260 AM in Erie before heading to WHAM in Rochester. His stay there was brief as he came back to Erie at WRIE 1330 AM for mornings with the late Bob Hughes on news. They were extremely funny. Bill's next stop was to return home to Buffalo at WBEN for middays. He's had quite the career over 50 years and can be very proud of his accomplishments. Happy retirement, Bill!

A genuinely nice guy and what you hear on the air is very much who you meet in person. Funny without having to "take it to the edge." He'll be missed by listeners and fellow broadcasters alike. Hopefully he'll hang around the Buffalo Broadcasters and maybe get involved more involved with the Hall of Fame. Or he might just flee south to play golf.

I was just thinking ...
just yesterday, on my ride to work,
he has been at it for a while;
didn't know 50 + years or he was going
to retire...

Bill was great at WBEN in mornings. I moved away before he went to WHTT so only heard him infrequently there. Always thought WBEN made a mistake with getting rid of him - I thought he did a good job orchestrating everything that was going on during the morning show. After he left I think the quality of the show was lower but obviously didn't hurt them in the ratings so what do I know.
