My sincere condolences to the family and co-workers of Bill Leaf. His loss is a tragedy.

A Little Angry at The Irony

Apparently, the folks at WSYR Radio and WTVH don't miss him that much.

The WSYR website makes NO mention of his passing, of his service to the station, the industry or the community. NONE. That's cold. Another irony - as of 9am today, the most current news that the 'news leader' has, are stories from FRIDAY! Therefore, there is no mention of the tragic crash that took the life of this up and coming reporter.

WTVH's website puts Bill Leaf's tragedy as a 'by-line' on the home page..."Local Reporter Killed In Crash"....and made a casual mention at the end of the story of him being a part time reporter at CBS5. Wow, Granite Corp. What a heart.

And the biggest irony of all...

Gomez, Dave & The ButtPlug Lady read the Leaf story this morning, as part of their news report. They made a huge deal (as they should have) about the jerk who was drunk, going the wrong way on I-81, etc. And the first spot in the break coming out of the news?

"Tom Annelli...The DWI Guy".
 
We've been overwhelmed at WSYR by the response to this horrible event.

We've heard from many, many friends in radio and TV. I always liked working in this market because it was not a cutthroat market. We were always able to play hard against each other, then go enjoy each others' company afterwards.

Biggus, and everyone else, thanks for the kind thoughts and words.

Bill was a hell of a nice guy, and the funniest guy in whatever room he was in. He was full of life and had more friends than you can count.

We don't have a full-time web posting presence, but our webmaster, Julie MacConnell, pulled together in less than a day an impressive memorial site to Bill. You can see it here:

Tragedy. Senseless tragedy, indeed.

I read the P-S article, studied the picture of Mr. Leaf. It breaks my heart and makes me livid. So young, talented, full of life and dare I say, handsome. So "forever young." I offer his family my deepest sympathy and condolences.

This Buffalo guy has driven 81 more times than some Salt City posters might think. I cannot imagine heading southbound and coming upon two bright lights going the wrong way and heading in my direction in the same lane.

Makes my skin crawl.
