Bill Mann On "Bloviator" Limbaugh

Bill Mann writes in today's MercuTimesTribReview about finding a 20-year-old framed letter from Rush Limbaugh among his souvenirs, which triggers a flood of thoughts about "The Bloviator":

At the time, Limbaugh's show was still on KNBR. It would soon move to Reichstag Radio, a.k.a. KSFO, a.k.a. "Sieg Heil On Your Dial." We keep hearing how many hundreds of radio stations carry Rush. There's a reason for that, and it's not his politics.

It's cheap. In fact, for many small stations, it's free.

The complete column may be eyeballed at:

PS -- Is Radio-Info.com running slooooow for anybody else? I'm on a screamin' business-class cable line, and it takes two minutes to bring up a page here. Congrats to R-I if it's simply an abundance of traffic, but if not...

Not to mention, radio programmers and management are notorious copycats. If something works, they clone it, hence 10 billion conservative talk show clones of Rush, and none of them are as good a broadcaster as he is.

Bill Mann isn't a very good writer, is he...and has not yet learned the more loaded and juvenile the descriptives, the less impact. Also, not terribly useful wallowing for those of us looking for a point. Ironically, the same could be said about his subject.

Yes, it has been running slow for me for weeks.

Rush is free for no one. This "writer"(?) is a moron.

Except for a few major markets, the show is syndicated for clearing the network commercials (5 minutes per hour.) This is pretty well true across the board in syndication. It's not free, but the station isn't out any CASH (except as mentioned above, in major markets, where substantial cash is paid to Premiere, but they don't generally have to clear the net spots.)

Doesn't he write for moveon.org? The styles seem similar.

Nothing in this statement is true. Rush is paid for with cash AND barter in even the smallest markets. The only exception is Clear Channel stations that run Rush, they don't pay for obvious reasons.

Hannity and Rush are cash+barter, everyone else is strictly barter.

This makes sense.

Delete all your temporary internet files from your computers. Amazing stuff happen when you do that!

Sorry, Star ... I clear the temporary Internet files out on a regular basis, and this site still loads slowly and errors out often. This isn't the only website I visit, so it's obvious there's something bogging the site down. (Too much traffic? That's a problem I'd love to have!)

I've experienced the same slow loading on this site, and it seems to have gotten worse the last month or so.

I bit my lip and read the column. Typical Bill Man: Overly insulting without much else going on. It's just fine to dislike Rush's politics. It's fine to call him a hypocrite; it's even perfectly okay to hate him personally. I'm sure many of us subscribe to 1, 2, or all 3, but as usual, Bill Mann goes overboard with the insults and not enough meat to the analysis.

Ever since the latest rewrite I've had trouble. I wrote to radio-info but to no avail. I notice fewer posts around these parts, so I imagine other are having problems. When I run this on Internet Explorer or Opera I get 50% CPU times and sometimes hangs. When I run it on Firefox it doesn't hang or warm the CPU but sill takes unreasonably long to load.

Doesn't anybody at radio-info.com do testing before they launch their software on an innocent public?

I wish they did because it has been running quite slow for weeks. Quite annoying.

Maybe if two of us get into a fight and start hurling insults at each other, they'll pay attention to this thread. OK - David (whichever David) - you want a piece of me? Well, do ya?

We understand some of the frustration you are experiencing and we welcome your feedback on site related issues, but the San Francisco board isn't the best place to report your concerns. Let's keep the discussion here to radio. As this specific problem is of extreme importance, I ask that you report these directly to our MBE. Any details you can add regarding the exact task you're performing when you encounter the error would be greatly appreciated. Those who can take a screen shot of the issue will help immensely. There are many issues at play here, and some of them have to to do with traffic, but we need to identify them as we run across them. So if you are having issues, just email them to [email protected]. He will pass on your reports to our technology director.

Please do not respond to this post and let's get back to the subject of "Bill Mann On "Bloviator" Limbaugh."

Thank you,

Radio-Info Board Management

Hey, it worked. Uh, I mean...what about that Limbaugh...what a bloviating a**hole.

Actually, on the rare occasions I listen, I find Rush rather entertaining, though we hold none of the same political opinions. But he's no Lee Rodgers...Lee is my favorite right winger.

OK - we're back on topic. Please discuss...
