BILL NORMAN-WNMB

Bill Norman, the long-time owner of WZKY-AM and WSPC-AM in Albemarle, passed away yesterday morning. Bill suffered a stroke last month. Bill lived in North Myrtle Beach where he owned and operated WNMB-AM 900. He is survived by his wife Susi and their daughter Jenni.

Bill hung out in the early days at WTOB and owned stations in Albermarle. I was going to see him next month.. RIP and my sympathy to his wife and daughter!

I have said I would look him up next time I went to the beach, but it just never happened.

I can say that Bill was passionate about things that he cared about...the Confederacy (a BIG Civil War fan)...AM Radio (he pushed AM Stereo, both in Albemarle and NMB)...Ford Mustangs and Classic Oldies.

BTW...I forgave him for firing me from my last radio job 20 years ago. It was the final impetus to hang up the headphones and move on to ministry and television.

Now the big question is what is Suzi and Jenni going to do with WNMB?

Later . . . .

Arrangements for Bill Norman:
Visitation will be from 6-8 this Wednesday evening at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend, NC. His hometown. There will be a private burial at a later time.

"We will be putting together a time for all of his friends in his beloved North Myrtle Beach to come by the radio station to share their memories and celebrate his life. We ask that people please wait until that time to come by the station, but I will share the date and time as soon as I have it." - Jenni Norman

Thanks for that info Johnny!

Bill was a great radio guy. He hired me in 1978 at 105.5 WNMB. The first real top 40 radio station I worked at. Bill kept that station sounding and looking pristine. He had a real love for that place and it showed. He was PD and later GM and always did some of the engineering.

RIP Bill Norman. Myrtle Beach is a better place for having had your stations and we all know you enjoyed it. Putting up with Dick Biondi alone should have gotten him a Billboard award.

Condolences and best wishes to the Norman family.

Sorry to hear of Bill's passing. As one of many announcers that he hired I can attest to the fact, he will be missed. He was his own person in the business, which I'm sure was one of the keys to his success. He loved the beach and he loved radio.
Condolences and best wishes to his family.
